The beauty of design, when it comes into play, is its ability to transform a space from purely functional to a truly aesthetic experience. It is not just about adding an extra element, but about introducing a concept that enhances the essence of the environment. This vision comes to life at Cosentino City in Israel, where the ultra-compact Dekton surface has been used as a canvas to create a monumental fountain. While the purity of white takes centre stage here, it is the interplay of different shades that gives rhythm and depth to this creation.

The challenge of combining six colours to form a harmonious work of art

Designed by Yonathan Chechik, this project features the new Dekton Pietra Edition collection. Chechik was tasked with finding the perfect formula for combining the six different shades in the collection to create a fountain that would not only act as a centrepiece, but also encourage visitors to throw coins into the water. The contrast of materials and the speed with which the project had to be completed presented an aesthetic challenge: “The main challenge was to come up with the most visually appealing way to combine the six colours,” notes Chechik, who overcame this with an ingenious solution.

The key to the project lies in its sense of order. Chechik chose to use the six colours separately, in distinct volumes, each with its own identity, yet together they form a harmonious, balanced whole. “The project was both designed and completed in a record time of just a few weeks,” says the designer, which adds to the merit of the final result. Despite the speed, not a single detail was overlooked.

The design of the fountain also embodies Chechik’s philosophy of drawing inspiration from natural materials that have both “presence and weight”. With his signature minimalist approach, he masterfully conveyed a sense of order and calm through the fluidity of the water as it gently flows through the fountain’s central cylinder. To achieve this, a grooved finish was applied to the cylinder, allowing the water to flow in an organised manner, creating a serene and visually balanced effect. “The water is meant to flow slowly and calmly,” explains Chechik, adding that he wanted the design to evoke a sense of peace and tranquillity.

Natural materials and timeless design: The signature of Yonathan Chechik

Beyond shape and colour, the choice of material was crucial. Known for its strength and durability, Dekton allowed Chechik to experiment with shapes and textures, blending modern techniques with classic elements and references. “By combining contemporary lines with traditional stone, I have created an object that manages to balance the two worlds,” points out the designer. The result is a piece that not only complements the space, but grounds it in a dialogue between tradition and modernity.

Known for his penchant for natural materials, Chechik sees a growing trend towards organic, less synthetic designs. In his own words, “In recent years, I have felt a deep yearning for nature and a more natural aesthetic”. This feeling is clearly reflected in the project, where every stone tells a story and every surface invites a tactile experience.
