A minimalist retreat with great depth

In this kitchen with clean lines and neutral tones, One Letter J Studio achieves the balance we all want at home: a beautiful, functional, and uncomplicated space. The standout material, Dekton Sabbia by Cosentino, is the silent key that makes it possible.

This kitchen doesn’t need special effects or impossible colours. It’s about something else: “We wanted to create a serene and welcoming core in the home, one that felt sophisticated yet accessible,” explain the studio. And they achieved it with an apparently simple formula: warm tones, durable materials, and perfect integration between the kitchen and dining area.

The starting point of the project was the island, which acts as a visual and functional hinge between the two areas. There are no cuts or interruptions. “The most interesting architectural element is the seamless integration of the kitchen island with the dining area. The sculptural lamp above the table reinforces this transition with a rhythmic shape that echoes the lines of the furniture,” they explain. The result is a space that invites cooking, dining, chatting, or simply being, all within the same continuous plane that exudes calm and order.

But it’s not all about aesthetics. Behind that serene atmosphere are very practical decisions, such as the choice of materials. “We chose Cosentino, specifically Dekton, for its exceptional durability, large format, and timeless aesthetic—key elements to achieve the minimalist and textured look we were aiming for,” say One Letter J. Dekton Sabbia fits perfectly into this concept: neutral, matte, and with a finish that invites touch.

In a high-traffic space like a kitchen, especially in a country where cooking often involves heat, intense sauces, and cast iron utensils, choosing a durable material is essential. “Dekton offers superior resistance to scratches, stains, and heat—essential qualities for high-use surfaces like worktops and tables. Its durability ensures long-term performance, while the matte finish enhances the tactile and visual experience of the space,” the designers explain.

Natural light also played an important role in the design. Nothing shines unnecessarily or reflects excessively. “Natural light was key. We chose a matte surface to avoid reflections and maintain a soft, earth-connected feel. The result is a tranquil, almost meditative space, perfect for mindful living and elegant entertaining,” they explain.

And what about the colours? Although it may not seem like it, a neutral palette also carries a lot of intention. “I wanted the space to feel like a reset, a clean and serene backdrop that would help me start each day calmly. Warm neutrals feel fresh but not cold. They also allow the natural textures of food, plants, and wooden elements to stand out beautifully,” the studio confesses.

In short, this kitchen is not only a showcase of One Letter J Studio’s expertise but also proof that functional design doesn’t have to be boring or generic. It can be beautiful, durable, and smart. And if it also allows you to cook freely without worrying about stains or scratches, even better. “I cook a lot, especially Asian food, so I don’t have to stress about hot pots, spills, or scratches. Dekton allows me to cook freely, and the best part is that it looks great and is super easy to maintain,” they conclude.
