In a city like Singapore, where architecture is constantly evolving, we all keep a close eye on the latest designs. One such standout is Ovon Design, the studio led by the talented architect Cassey Yeoh. She has made a name for herself with a residential project that embodies serene minimalism and elegant lines. Reminiscent of a modern temple, this new home uses neutral tones and high quality materials to create a tranquil atmosphere. It perfectly illustrates how well-executed minimalism can transform a space into a haven of peace.
One of the most striking features of this project is the floating staircase. Not only does it functionally connect the different levels of the house, but it also serves as a decorative focal point, adding a dynamic element to the space. This staircase was more than just a practical solution; it was a conscious choice inspired by a particular moment. According to the architect, the idea was born during a visit to the Cosentino showroom, where the concept of a floating staircase captured the designers’ imagination and became the centrepiece of the project.
Dekton and Silestone in eloquent dialogue
The choice of materials was crucial in this project. Ovon Design opted for the ultra-compact Dekton surface and the hybrid mineral surface Silestone, both from Cosentino, for their perfect blend of aesthetics, durability and versatility. These materials not only meet the technical requirements, but also embody the understated elegance that matches Cassey Yeoh’s minimalist vision. You will find them in the sculptural staircase and throughout the kitchen, on the worktop and the island.
The floating staircase, which seems to defy gravity, was made possible by the properties of Cosentino materials, which offer the strength and lightness required for this design. These materials blend seamlessly into the space, enhancing the purity of the lines and the neutral colour palette without distracting attention. In addition, the durability of the surfaces ensures that the staircase is not just a spectacular feature.
The neutral tones chosen by the team harmonise with the overall aesthetic, providing both warmth and a sleek, modern feel. While not claiming to be a monumental work of art, this home reflects meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of how materials and thoughtful design can create a modern, serene haven in the heart of the city.
