The privileged natural environment of Parede, Portugal, demands that any new architectural project promotes a convivial dialogue between built spaces and the landscape. With this in mind, architect Humberto Conde and construction company SomaFuture have created a project that redefines the concept of livability, with balconies as the undeniable focal point. According to SomaFuture, “The balconies are the final chapter in the history of volumes designed for living, with an ever-present view of the ocean. They are spaces for contemplation and, as such, are in constant use”.
Every detail has been carefully considered to bring this vision to life. Cosentino materials, including Dekton and Silestone, were used for the interior and exterior flooring, staircases, bathroom cladding and kitchen and bathroom worktops. Far from being a haphazard choice, this reflects a commitment to ensuring aesthetic and functional consistency throughout the project.
Materials that tell a story
In a design that emphasises clean lines and visual continuity, Cosentino’s materials were masterfully integrated. “Choosing a material that could elegantly convey the sense of continuous spaces with regular geometries was very important,” notes SomaFuture. Dekton, renowned for its strength and versatility, was used in the most heavily trafficked areas, while Silestone brought warmth and durability to the interiors.
Construction company SomaFuture highlights another key aspect: the colour palette. “The choice of colours was driven by the desire to offer residents a neutral, peaceful and timeless space,” explains the project manager. This approach allows future residents to personalise the space to suit their own lifestyle without visual clashes.
Guarantee and sustainability
In addition to aesthetics, Cosentino’s choice of materials also meets the criteria of functionality and sustainability. According to SomaFuture, “As a developer, we are committed to ensuring the quality of the materials we choose. The strength, durability and reputation of brands such as Silestone and Dekton are key factors”. This not only ensures a long-lasting space, but also minimises future intervention and maintains a high level of quality for users.
There is no denying the experimental nature of this project. The project manager points out that “the choice of materials was influenced not only by the association of the project with a prestigious brand, but also by the need to test a range of products that could be used in larger developments”. In this respect, the collaboration with Cosentino has allowed us to explore new possibilities in contemporary residential construction.
With materials that combine aesthetics, functionality and sustainability, this development not only meets, but exceeds expectations, setting a benchmark in residential design. Here, Dekton and Silestone are not just materials; they are an integral part of an architectural narrative that invites us to look to the future without losing sight of the ocean. The Atlantic is always there.
