Sophistication, lightness, a family atmosphere and a special warmth. This is what the architect Juan Iglesias of EAU Estudio de Arquitectura wanted to achieve for the Muro Beauty Salon project, located in the Muro Serrano area of the El Corte Inglés shopping centre on Calle Serrano in Madrid. “What we were looking for in the Muro Beauty Salon project was a special warmth that conveys calm and confidence, and above all a familiar and intimate atmosphere, without losing sight of the refinement and delicacy of a space designed to enhance people’s beauty. To achieve this, we played with the combination of wood lattices, porcelain tile floors in taupe shades and Dekton surfaces, which exude distinction, grace and elegance,” says the architect.
The studio was familiar with Cosentino surfaces, having worked with Dekton and Silestone in the past, “such as the flooring for the La Brújula and Ramón Peña canning factories, and the exterior façade, flooring and furniture cladding for the Delgado Selección headquarters.
Dekton Albarium and Dekton Awake as focal points
The architect appreciates the versatility of Dekton finishes, which led him to use Dekton Albarium and Dekton Awake. Dekton Albarium was used for the floor, where its understated grey and beige background catches the eye and the light tones of the design give the surface a subtle movement. Meanwhile, Dekton Awake stars on the wall cladding and work tables, the counter in the colouring area and the reception desk.
Dekton Awake is a reinterpretation of the iconic attributes of the precious Paonazzo stone. A colour with a thick veining with gradients of light grey and cream, luscious rusty terracotta and subtle hints of inky blue. The perfect complement to wood finishes and careful lighting that plays with different focal points and even mirrors to create elegant yet intimate spaces.
The advantages of Dekton for a Beauty Salon
In choosing Dekton, the architect also took into account the advantage of working with formats and thicknesses that offer great possibilities in the development of special concepts such as this one: “Dekton makes it possible to work with 5 mm thicknesses, something that is impossible to achieve with natural stone, giving lightness to any cladding application, such as walls or furniture. It also allows the use of finishes and textures reminiscent of natural stone, which would be much more expensive and polluting if quarried.”
“Other advantages of Dekton include virtually zero water absorption, high heat resistance and abrasion resistance,” he further says. All of these properties make it the ideal material for a beauty salon such as this, where surfaces need to withstand both high traffic and heavy use.
