The founder of VK Pool & Bygg, Janne Ekman, has been installing pools in Sweden for 15 years. Therefore, he was familiar with the advantages of working with Dekton, Cosentino's ultracompact surface, which can be used both to clad the area around the pool and the interior of the basin itself. However, in his own home, the professional wanted to take the product a step further and used Dekton to clad the entire facade.
Being virtually non-porous and extremely easy to clean, its slabs perfectly fulfil both purposes. Additionally, its Dekton GRIP+ finish, with small micro-reliefs, prevents it from being slippery, creating a functional and stylish outdoor environment.
Dekton: the perfect material for a durable facade
Considering Sweden's extreme climate, which experiences rain, snow, blizzards, and sun, the designer thought Dekton, impervious to temperature changes, was perfect for cladding his home's facade. Its moisture-resistant quality also prevents stains, mould, or efflorescence, minimising maintenance needs. The surface, in fact, maintains dimensional and aesthetic stability for decades.
“The fact that Dekton is UV and scratch-resistant, offers large formats, and is also lightweight are unique and essential features for me,” explains Ekman. Dekton is also a Carbon Neutral product, advocating sustainability in facade cladding and durability, combined with its 25-year warranty for this application.
In the case of this ventilated facade, the slabs were fixed using a screw system on wooden beams, allowing large-format cuts to be made, adapting to the building's geometry and the returns of glazed areas. The screws are lacquered in the same colour as Dekton, blending the anchoring system to make it less visible.
An elegant and warm aesthetic
The variety of colours in which the material is available has also been an advantage for the contractor. In this case, he used Dekton Laurent for his facade, inspired by the natural stone Port Laurent. The main feature of this elegant colour is its golden veins, which structure the space and bring warmth to a cool background of dark tones that add depth to the whole.
“As a designer, I chose Dekton Laurent because it combines a dark yet soft base colour with a natural variation of veins in brown and golden tones that perfectly match the new bankirai wood used to clad all the property's terraces,” says Ekman, referring to the durable tropical wood on the house's porch.
The result has left him satisfied... and has sparked interest beyond his neighbourhood. “After completing his own home, this contractor has started receiving numerous requests from clients who want him to renovate their villas, replacing the original facade materials with Dekton, which offers better technical performance and a much more refined design,” says Cosentino Sweden.
