The brief was to transform the kitchen of a family home in Singapore into an open, functional, and warm space, with a large island as the core of the project. However, there was a challenge. A structural pillar stood in the centre of the layout, threatening to disrupt the visual flow and constrain the design. Far from seeing it as a limitation, the Studio Kabi team managed to turn it into an architectural feature.
A pillar clad with Dekton
The solution was both radical and delicate: cladding the pillar with the same material as the worktop, integrating it into a curved and continuous surface of Dekton Marmorio that conceals it while turning it into a sculptural element that structures the space. Thus, what could have been a disruption is transformed into a visual and functional axis around which the entire kitchen revolves.
The softly rounded island extends as a breakfast bar or for more informal meals, with two matte black stools adding contrast. The kitchen worktop, also in Dekton Marmorio, stretches towards the back of the room, unifying the island, work surfaces, and splashback. All in a light tone, with subtle veining that evokes the natural aesthetic of travertine, but with the performance of Cosentino's ultracompact surface: heat, scratch, and stain resistance.
Welcoming and visually fluid
“The kitchen needed to be durable, functional, but also welcoming and visually fluid,” explain the studio. “We were looking for a surface that offered texture and tone, and Dekton Marmorio was perfect for this.” The result combines tactile quality and visual presence without compromising performance or ease of maintenance.
According to the homeowners, the goal was to achieve a “clean, bright, and minimalist” atmosphere, without any unnecessary boldness or prominence. The extensive use of the same material across the surfaces achieves just that: visual coherence without saturation. Moreover, it creates a kitchen ready for intense daily use, easy to clean and maintain. “Working with Cosentino was a very positive experience: they offer a wide and updated range and are constantly developing new colours and designs,” they conclude.
