The Research Forest office complex in the greater Houston area underwent a renovation to give it a more modern and elevated look. The facade was fundamental in achieving the desired aesthetic, and two shades of Dekton by Cosentino provided the perfect solution.
The owners of the building visited the Cosentino Houston Center showroom and warehouse looking for a material needed to be aesthetically pleasing, but also large format and durable, backed by a reliable company that provided turnkey services from slab to install. Dekton exceeded all expectations while also being full lifecycle carbon neutral.
Two contrasting Dekton colors were selected to create the perfect balanced direct adhere facade. Dekton Bromo is the dark gray shade that can be seen towards the lower area of the facade, a color inspired by metamorphic rocks such as slate. Its subtle, faded graphics and natural aesthetic, adds character and sleekness to the structure. Right above it sits Dekton Opera, a marble-inspired color of light gray veining that adds depth to the creamy white surface.
The DKB direct gluing solution, implemented by Camarata Mansonry Systems using products supplied by Mapei, provided a quick, efficient and economical way to renovate the existing façade. This was achieved by applying Dekton directly to the existing wooden battens and plaster, which had previously been treated with a protective mortar. Dekton, in its 8 mm thickness, allows it to be clad directly with cement-based adhesives, resulting in minimal joints between the panels.
The facade is the skin of the building and what creates a lasting first impression. This Dekton facade will surely turn heads while standing the test of time and use.
