The bold silhouette of Delfín Tower, which towers conspicuously above the coastline of Benidorm (Alicante), does not go unnoticed. Breaking away from common patterns, this project stands out on the beachfront for its avant-garde form, but also for its unique features, including the fact that it is the first building in the world with a curved, ventilated façade made of ceramic porcelain.

In this case, Cosentino’s ultra-compact stone, Dekton, was the surface chosen for this challenge whose objective goes beyond just catching the eye: the sinuous forms of Delfín Tower actually seek to achieve greater sustainability.

“Thanks to its façade design, the tower optimises ventilation and solar protection throughout the year. This results in a reduction in CO2 emissions of between 30-39%”, say the project managers.

Dekton: the perfect material for a building where sustainability is key

Delfín Tower is indeed the first high-rise residential building in Spain to be awarded the LEED Gold certification. This certification implies that the entire process, from the design to the material selection, construction and even the subsequent management of the building, has been designed to offer the most advanced solutions in terms of sustainability.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense that the material chosen for the façade is Dekton, as it is a carbon neutral product throughout its life cycle. This means that, right from the extraction of the raw material, only the most demanding, efficient and environmentally friendly processes are used, and that the greenhouse gases generated are offset by investing in UN-backed offset projects.

In addition to this, Dekton is an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator, which has a positive impact on the energy management of the building. Furthermore, its high resistance to UV rays, scratches, frost, thawing and even fire, together with its low water absorption rate, ensure a pristine appearance for many years to come. This surface, which combines low maintenance and a long service life, is also beneficial to the environment.

Luxury and respect for the environment go hand in hand at Delfín Tower

“One of the materials that stands out the most when approaching this residential tower in Benidorm is its exterior cladding. Its ventilated façade system based on large format slabs has been a real challenge due to its morphology and curved shape”. These are the words of the project developer, Goya Real Estate, when asked about the panels used for the project: customised, large format, 8 mm thick and exclusively cut-to-size by Cosentino.

In addition, the project features taps that reduce water consumption by 40%, innovative waste management, fully renewable energies, electric vehicle chargers, a home automation system that automatically adjusts the temperature, humidity and ventilation to the weather conditions...

The rest of the materials used, the processes and the spaces in the building designed by Pacap Arquitectos are equally efficient, without compromising on luxury. Thus, the comfortable interior design by Alejandra Pombo in top quality materials is complemented by extraordinary common areas, such as the ‘Infinity swimming pool’ on the 19th floor and the social club.
