Alberto Vanin is a well-known Milanese architect in Italy. He is recognised both for the works of his studio, Alberto Vanin Architetto, and for hosting several television programmes related to design and home renovation. In this case, the professional has designed a sophisticated apartment in understated tones, where geometric lines and textures take centre stage.
“The most interesting architectural and decorative aspect of this project is, without a doubt, the harmonious integration of materials, shapes, and light, which gives the space a contemporary and refined elegance,” explains Vanin.
Dekton for kitchens and bathrooms
In the choice of materials referred to by the professional, Dekton has played a leading role in both the kitchen and bathrooms. In the kitchen, Vanin used Dekton Kelya for the worktop and front, a colour that reinterprets classic dark marbles with light veining. In the guest bathroom, he used Dekton Grafite halfway up the wall, featuring a dark base that blends blacks, greys, and whitish areas. For the other half, up to the ceiling, he used Dekton Grigio, with a grey colour scheme accented with warm tones. The bold combination is both harmonious and avant-garde.
But the space that excites the designer the most is the main bathroom, a spacious and refined area where Dekton Ava covers many of the surfaces. The colour is inspired by the Italian stone Ceppo di Gré, creating an innovative cream-toned finish that does not exist in nature.
“The wall cladding in Dekton Ava creates a continuous and tactile texture that envelops the space, enhanced by soft arches that soften the strict geometry of the bathroom,” explains Vanin. The architect also refers to the use of the same Dekton tone on the floor: “it is a strategic choice that combines aesthetic value with high technical performance,” he states.
A shower full of advantages
“From a functional perspective, Dekton's ultra-compact surface ensures total waterproofing, resistance to humidity, and maximum durability, even in demanding environments such as the interior of a shower, exposed to thermal variations, water jets, and cleaning products. Additionally, it is a material highly resistant to scratches, impacts, stains, and heat, ensuring that surfaces remain flawless over time, even with intensive daily use,” the professional continues.
For Vanin, the reduced thickness of the material is also noteworthy, as in his experience, it allows for precise and continuous installation, minimising joints and favouring a clean and contemporary aesthetic. “This also provides greater structural lightness, making it ideal for both renovations and new architectural projects,” he emphasises.
To all these benefits, the architect adds the material's aesthetics, which encompass a wide range of colours. “The variety of finishes and textures -such as marble, concrete, or natural stone effects- allows for the creation of elegant surfaces that integrate with the rest of the design, as seen in this minimalist and refined bathroom. Furthermore, the colour stability and tactile texture of the slab integrate perfectly into the design language, giving the shower a solid and sophisticated presence that harmonises with the overall aesthetic of the space,” concludes the designer.
