According to Yolanda Cubo, the renovation of this beachfront holiday home has turned it into a “haven for calm”. For the interior designer in charge of the project, this home located in the tourist area of Torrenova, in Calviá (Mallorca), is one of her most “refined” works.
“Minimalist in style, yet warm and delicate, it is inspired by sea sand, whose small pebbles, as they slipped through my fingers, reminded me of terrazzo, the material that I then used for the bathrooms and kitchen cladding”, she says.
A renovation project with a focus on the kitchen
Indeed, the kitchen was key to the renovation. According to Cubo, the project focused on moving the kitchen from its original location at the entrance of the house to the place where the former master bedroom and the dressing room used to be. The reason? The old kitchen was dimly lit, making it a dark, dreary place where you wouldn’t want to be.
According to the professional, the new layout has provided “a fluid space for the kitchen, living room and dining room open to the sea and brightly lit, which is the new meeting point of the house”.
Dekton Sasea to maximise the brightness of a kitchen with a sea view
To enhance the feeling of spaciousness and brightness, the kitchen features light-reflecting colours that contrast slightly with the natural oak texture of the kitchen island and the beige tone of the tiles used for the front. For this reason, the ultra-compact Dekton by Cosentino surface was used for the worktop.
Specifically, the colour chosen was Sasea, a colour inspired by Sahel limestone that features a cream-grey background full of details, yet soft and gentle, which has all the elegance of Sahel limestone and all the quality of Dekton. From the wide range of thicknesses available, which range from 8 millimetres to 2 centimetres, they opted for 12-millimetre pieces cut into three large slabs for the sink area, the island and the splashback, providing a very modern, clean and minimalist sense of continuity.
