If there is one thing that defines a hotel, it is undoubtedly its reception. The materials, colours and layout are in themselves information and a statement of intent that guests perceive from the very first moment. This is why it is essential to emphasise style from the outset. This was clear to both interior design studio Arredamenti Andalo and designer Tatiana Bottamedi when they took on the challenge of the Hotel Majorka in Andalo, Northern Italy.
“The decorative element that characterises and defines the project is undoubtedly the geometric pattern that runs along the ceiling and across the reception area. A canvas that starts from an octagon and evolves into complex and harmonious shapes that intertwine,” they explain. And that was the challenge.
A geometric pattern
White is the dominant colour, with wood and touches of black to define the geometric pattern. And the chosen surface had to meet the same requirements. That is why there was no hesitation in choosing Dekton Awake, which reinterprets the iconic attributes of the precious Paonazzo stone.
With a rich veining with gradients of light grey and cream, with luscious rusty terracotta and subtle hints of inky blue, Dekton Awake was the perfect choice. “The light colour brings brightness and elegance; we liked it immediately,” says the hotel. “We needed a material that was strong, resistant and, above all, non-staining, because every day it is tested by glasses, cups, brooms and vacuum cleaners and comes into contact with all sorts of cleaning products and drinks that are accidentally dropped on it.”
The same reasoning guided the design of the bar counter. “The need for a continuous material for the bar counter and the reception desk led to the choice of Dekton. We were looking for a material that was extremely scratch resistant, but most importantly stain resistant. It had to be visually striking and remain unchanged over time. The project also called for elegance, luminosity and reflectivity”. In addition, the work surface of the bar top had to be made from a hygienic material, and the Dekton composition also fulfilled this function.
Meanwhile, the fireplace structure, which forms the entrance to the bar and is adjacent to the reception area, had to remain unchanged, but at the same time convey a sense of warmth and welcome, so it was essential that it followed the same line. The Dekton Awake cladding achieved this to perfection.
