The classic Italian stone from Vicenza is the material that gave life to the iconic villas and palaces projected in the Cinquecento by the architect Andrea Palladio; the travertine was the emblematic stone of ancient Rome, as it gave life to iconic monuments and imposing structures that defined the greatness of the Empire. These two recognizable materials today infuse style into the most modern houses in the world, although completely renovated, thanks to Daniel Germani, architect, designer and creative director in charge of the Pietra Kode collection, which covers the kitchen, bathrooms and walls of a contemporary house in Godo di Ravenna (Italy).
“For this collection, I have devoted a lot of time to deciphering the history of each classic stone of Italian architecture, to then reimagine them in a contemporary design with all the benefits and properties of Dekton. Pietra Kode is a modern proposal that shows luxury in small and discreet details. It is designed with the future in mind, and can beautify any space and project in a way that will never go out of style”, explains the creator of the Cosentino's Dekton collection.
Iconic look and new advantages
Dekton Grafite shines in the kitchen with its dark base, which intermingles blacks and grays and presents whitish and reddish areas in the form of a cloud over the large island and the countertop. This color, which reinterprets the texture of the dark, fine-grained limestone, blends perfectly with the blue of the kitchen and, in addition, offers advantages that even surpass those of the stones of the past, as it does not scratch, is not affected by abrasion and does not stain either, since its porosity is practically nil.
Moreover, unlike what happens with natural stone, Dekton does not require any type of treatment to always remain in excellent condition: to clean it, a damp cloth is enough.
Classic touches in renovated bathrooms
In two of the bathrooms, Dekton Avorio is the star. Of a light beige color and with an extremely authentic finish, this surface is inspired by the homonymous stone, a material of Italian origin characterized by the presence of fossilized shells. In this case, it is used as wall cladding, as well as in the generous and sober Silence model sinks.
In the third of the house's bathrooms, the type of sink is replicated, though in Dekton Grigio. With a play of Grigio with warm accents, this color is inspired by the Grigio Alpi stone, a variety with macrofossils of the Vincenza stone popularized by the aforementioned Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. In this case, like the previous one, the shower is also made of Dekton (Katrall model), and Dekton Grigio has also been used on the wall to create a total look without joints.
Thanks to these choices, the villa winks at the Italian tradition without losing anything in practicality or modernity, but quite the opposite: impregnating its design with the most absolute contemporaneity.
