History and origins of travertine marble

Travertine is a sedimentary rock that has been used in monuments and historic buildings since ancient times. Iconic examples of its use include the Colosseum in Rome and Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Thanks to its formation in hot springs and fountains, it is a stone rich in texture and colour, with distinctive veins and porosity that give it a unique charm.

Today, travertine continues to be a safe bet for architects and interior designers, who appreciate its ability to bring warmth and sophistication to any space. Although it has traditionally been associated with classic and rustic styles, this new revamped version is perfectly suited to contemporary, minimalist and understated luxury environments.

Find out more about the new Dekton colours inspired by Travertine

Dekton and its Pietra Edition collection bring us two new travertine styles, offering a perfect compendium for Zen-style decoration: the favourite choice of designers and architects to create peaceful interiors, full of serenity and simplicity. These are the new colours of the Travertine Edition, which join the two colours also designed by Daniel Germani for the launch of Pietra Kode:

TREVI: with its cream background crossed by a parallel pattern of irregular veins in shades of grey and blue, this colour is inspired by the classic beauty of Roman silver travertine, one of the stones that characterised the architecture of the Eternal City and which today lends personality to interior design and architectural projects with contemporary lines.

NEBU: the hyper-realistic graphic of this colour perfectly recreates the depth of open-pore Roman travertine, but with the non-porous finish associated with Dekton – which enhances its strength – and beautiful irregularities that add a timeless uniqueness to any design.

Elegant and simple floors and walls

Thanks to their durability and design, the new colours of the Travertine Edition are a popular choice for floors and walls. In addition, Dekton’s technical advantages allow it to be used in larger formats and in continuous applications, eliminating visible joints and creating homogeneous surfaces that visually enlarge spaces.

The distinctive pattern of parallel veins in shades of grey and blue of Dekton Trevi lends monumentality to any space and, thanks to its background in shades of limestone, it does not compromise a simplicity that takes us back to the foundations of rationalist architecture.

Understated luxury bathrooms

These travertine-inspired colours bring a spa-like feel and wellness to bathroom design. They can be used for countertops, shower and bathtub cladding and in the design of integrated washbasins, creating a relaxing and sophisticated environment. Washbasins and bathtubs in the Travertine Edition colours are becoming key design elements, offering a sculptural and functional aesthetic.

Inspired by open-pore Roman travertine, Dekton Nebu’s pronounced parallel veins help to enhance the verticality of the space, creating an atmosphere rich in texture but with a sense of space and light. With virtually no porosity and high resistance to sunlight, this colour will remain unchanged over time, looking as good as new for years to come.

Modern Mediterranean-style kitchens

Thanks to their resistance to heat and scratches, Dekton kitchen worktops are a practical and stylish choice. Combined with minimalist cabinets and latest generation appliances, the new colours of the Travertine Edition add a touch of discreet luxury that will not go unnoticed. Splashbacks in the same colours are also becoming increasingly popular, providing easy to clean, highly decorative surfaces.

Inspired by the depth of open-pore Roman travertine, Nebu’s hyper-realistic graphic is characterised by a veined pattern in shades of brown and ochre that works particularly well with chocolate-coloured lacquers, metallic finishes such as Dekton Trilium or stone-look finishes such as Grafite.

Façades of eternal beauty

Since time immemorial, travertine has been one of the most popular cladding materials for façades. However, the high porosity of this attractive natural stone makes it susceptible to staining from moisture, blackening from mould and pollution, cracking from temperature changes and wear from abrasion.

The high resistance of Dekton’s ultra-compact surface to all these agents, combined with the careful aesthetics of Nebu and Trevi, has allowed the universalisation of this Mediterranean stone, making it suitable for the most extreme weather conditions. In addition, the wide range of finishes available and its suitability for different anchoring systems allow it to be used in a variety of façade types, both glued and ventilated.
