Allaround Lab, the studio led by architects Noelia de la Red and Jordi Ribas, delves into the contemporary practice of reconverting old industrial structures into new habitable spaces. Ávila is the name of a project located in Poblenou, in the northeast of Barcelona, a neighborhood that over the last decade is experiencing a vigorous process of transformation and growth, and where many factory buildings have been transformed into cultural facilities and innovative domestic proposals. The new dwelling is designed to take root in the place, and in order to blend with the existing architecture it avoids any kind of superfluous ornament and drives all attention to the past of this old warehouse.

Turkish designer Baran Demirok is behind the design of this chair that breaks the boundaries between design and art. A work of art which does not lose its functional character, providing a comfortable seat and, at the same time, an almost artistic experience. “The project aims to create a utilitarian sense rather than a manifesto. It provides a sculptural feel while at the same time responding to the anthropometric and comfort needs of the user”, explains Demirok.

Determined to create a space that reflects the artist’s hand and sensibilities, seven panels hang from the interior structure. In these works, Gates honours his father’s craft as a roofer and uses roofing strategies and torch down, which requires an open flame to heat the material and affix it to the surface. An operating bronze bell, salvaged from St. Laurence, a landmark Catholic Church that once stood in Chicago’s South Side, will stand next to the entrance of the Pavilion.

Converting three floors of a residential building into a single family dwelling. This was the project developed by Leal Ribas, a studio based in Curitiba, Paraná (Brazil). The 600-metre space has been completely refurbished to meet the needs of a couple and their two daughters “with a lot of comfort, luxury, privacy and functionality”, in the words of the studio. The aim was “to transform the space into a haven for the family”.

Once again it is time to talk about The Circle, the largest and most demanding construction project in Switzerland, where several of its establishments use Cosentino’s materials. This innovative architectural complex, opened in October 2021 at Zurich Airport, boasts a convention centre and an event space of nearly 16,500 m2, is home to the new University Hospital Airport and has a wide range of leisure facilities, including numerous unique shops, restaurants and bars.
