Jade Hills is a high-end new-build development in Selangor (Malaysia). The development is home to the T House, a large house of more than 1,600 built metres that the interior design company DualSpace Studio has decorated with neutral colours, design pieces and natural textured materials, such as wood, wool and stone.

The biggest challenge? To make the staircase they had imagined a reality. “We wanted to create a floating staircase, but then we realised that its structure and support were quite challenging”, explains the studio.

The main problem concerned the thickness of the materials. “Concrete has a greater thickness than we wanted to use. To achieve an elegant floating staircase, we needed something more slender, but at the same time as durable as concrete, capable of adapting perfectly to our design”, say the interior designers.

12 mm Silestone slabs: the perfect thickness for a challenging project

After an exhaustive search for the perfect material, DualSpace Studio came up with Silestone surfaces, available in thicknesses of 12, 20 and 30 millimetres. “These thicknesses perfectly suited the needs of our project and also provided a uniform look on both sides of the staircase. We quickly realised that Silestone was the solution we were looking for”.

Its wide range of colours and styles captivated the studio, which finally chose Silestone Desert Silver slabs in the thinnest thickness available, 12 mm. Its pattern, evoking an icy surface with fine grey veins, offers a very balanced and uniform translucent design that blends in naturally with the rest of the room.

Inspired by the marbled trend, its pattern stands out for its delicate ‘texturisation’ – also found in the interior design of the house –, which is enhanced by its Suede finish, offering a soft and pleasant touch and full colour consistency.

A bespoke sculptural DKTN table

After this successful solution, the studio decided to use Cosentino’s ultra-compact surface, DKTN, to create a sculptural dining table to be placed near the staircase and topped with three white geometric shaped lamps.

Specifically, the colour chosen for this eye-catching bespoke piece with a sinuous design was 20 mm DKTN Danae. This colour is reminiscent of the sand swaying in the desert thanks to the different shades of beige that cross its surface and capture the flow of the movement.

Both applications are a perfect fit for this project featuring a discreet, light and contemporary design, which has led DualSpace Studio to consider using Cosentino products in future projects. “We can’t wait to use it in new applications!”.

Amalie Fagerli (@svenngaarden) has been showcasing her talent for decorating beautiful houses on the Internet for about fifteen years. So much so that, back in 2011, her home was awarded as the most beautiful house in Norway, the country where the interior designer hails from.

But as time passes, the house expanded and changed along with its inhabitants, who eventually became a family of four. However, the kitchen has always been the heart of the house. ‘Here we spent a lot of time around the table with friends and family. We even set up an office and a photo studio,’ explains the influencer.

Being photogenic is one of the main attributes that Fagerli demanded of her kitchen, given the number of productions she had to carry out in it. But at the same time, the space also had to be useful, because after all it was more than just a stage: it was where they cooked every day.

Colour and customised drawers in a unique kitchen

For this reason, the professional opted for kitchen units in a striking faded aquamarine colour, S5005-G20Y. This shade was custom-made for the interior designer at the premises of Sigdal, a local kitchen brand with a large paint department.

The L-shaped design is completed by oak fronts with two exterior partitions, which contain numerous interior drawers. In fact, the corner units were custom-designed for Fagerli, who wanted these triangular drawers to be fully pull-out, so that everything would be visible.

A bright white Silestone worktop, the perfect backdrop of the best productions

‘In combination with this stunning kitchen model and shade, I have chosen a Silestone worktop in Lagoon colour. It is a dream to work on it, to keep it clean and, not least, to use it as a backdrop for photos and styling – I LOVE IT! The fact that it doesn’t stain or get dusty is just a huge bonus,’ says the expert.

Lagoon is a bright, cool white that reflects light ‘in the same way as ice cracking on a lake’. This definition, as well as perfectly describing the Norwegian climate, is particularly suited to highlight the dishes that are placed on it.

Worktop + splashback in Lagoon colour, the most distinctive total look

The only challenge of the refurbishment was to bring the full slabs upstairs to the flat – for a modern, seamless look – but Cosentino’s local supplier, Gautvik Steinindustri, solved this by lifting the slabs with a crane onto the terrace.

‘The front has the same design as the worktop, but thinner and 30 centimetres high so that it just goes right over the hot, cold and boiling water mixer tap (nothing is left to chance here!),’ explains Fagerli, referring to the splashback.

‘With a front in the same design as the worktop, the use of additional materials and patterns, such as tiles, glass panels, etc., is avoided. There is quite a mix in this small room, so I didn’t want to interfere any more here,’ she concludes.

Situated 350 metres above sea level, with breathtaking views of Oslo and Nordmarka, the iconic Scandic Holmenkollen Park Hotel is a destination in itself. It occupies a historic ‘dragon style’ building, the oldest part of which was built by the architect Balthazar Lange in 1894. The wooden coffered ceilings and dragon heads from the Viking age are preserved on the façade, creating a dialogue with the contemporary features incorporated in the last major renovation. This is not the first time, as the building has been renovated several times throughout its history and used as a hotel and, at one point, as a sanatorium.

Following a refurbishment by Metropolis Arkitektur & Design AS/Mellbye Arkitektur Interiør AS, the hotel now houses 376 renovated rooms and common areas designed to offer a unique guest experience. With an investment of NOK 280 million, the refurbishment has covered a total area of 31,000 m².

An ecological approach

Cosentino materials have certainly played a significant role in this huge investment, not only for their aesthetic appeal, but also for their seamless integration into the sustainable approach of the revamped hotel. Everything has been carefully planned to ensure that the resort meets the requirements of the Norwegian ecolabel, from the use of renewable energies to the reduction of water consumption, a sustainable supply of food, beverages and disposable items, as well as eco-labelled products and materials.

Cosentino has a lot to offer in this regard, which is one of the reasons why designers choose its surfaces. And more specifically, DKTN, which is a carbon-neutral surface throughout its life cycle. In addition, it has advanced technical properties such as high resistance to UV rays, stains, scratches and sudden changes in temperature.

Elegance in shades of grey

‘We know from experience that DKTN is a material that stands the test of time very well,’ says interior architect Hans Christian E. Thomassen from Metropolis Arkitektur & Design AS. This is what prompted his team to select the innovative surface for both the buffet and reception areas of this hotel.

In both cases, the colour chosen was Soke, a soothing and elegant grey inspired by classic cement floors. Its realistic veining creates a relaxed visual effect across a range of grey tones, demonstrating its versatility for different applications such as the reception counter, buffet bar and restaurant tables.

Silestone for the hotel rooms

The renovated hotel rooms also feature Cosentino surfaces. DKTN Soke can be found in some furniture details, while Silestone is used in the bathrooms, providing high strength and durability. Specifically, two iconic Silestone colours combine to make for welcoming and refined spaces with countertops and washbasins in the deep bluish grey of Charcoal Soapstone, and the bright and pure White Storm.

‘Cosentino is proud to be part of Scandic Holmenkollen Park,’ says Oskar Peterson, managing director of Cosentino Norway. ‘This historic hotel has been renovated for the future, and we are pleased to be able to supply materials that will remain just as beautiful year after year, even when exposed to heavy use over a long period of time’.

In early 2019, influencer and digital creator Carita Alfthan visited a flat in Punavuori, located in an old 1923 stone-built house in Helsinki, and immediately fell in love with the space that is now the common area of her new home. Here, an open-plan kitchen connects to the dining room via an island. ‘I wanted a house with as spacious a floor plan as possible, which would be suitable both for day-to-day living and for welcoming visitors. I think this kitchen design is great for visitors to sit on a bar stool next to the island,’ she explains.

The kitchen already had this layout when Alfthan bought the property. It was quite nice: high gloss white units on the back wall, a simple (but greenish) glass plate in the space in between, a white half-island and a black painted surface with a glass plate. However, as soon as I visited the flat, I saw with my soul’s eyes how to make the open-plan kitchen look much nicer and of a higher quality with the help of a small surface change,’ she assures.

Gold and grey veining in the kitchen

The kitchen is often said to be the heart of the home, so I wanted to give it a makeover with a new surface to replace the paint and worn glass,’ adds the influencer. She wished to bring in the beauty of natural marble, which is why she chose Silestone.

A great advantage for her is that it looks just as beautiful and is a much less maintenance-intensive surface than real marble. ‘Silestone worktops are made from a mix of premium minerals and an innovative technology that allows recycled materials such as glass to be added to their composition. As it is highly non-porous, unlike marble, it does not absorb dirt and bacteria and is very easy to clean,’ she stresses.

A matching table

The influencer went for one of Silestone’s most popular colours, the elegant Calacatta Gold. ‘It features a fresh white base, an elegantly large pattern but with moderate nuances. Since my home has gold accents, the Calacatta Gold veining was a perfect fit,’ she says.

In fact, she was so enthusiastic about Calacatta Gold that she also ordered a dining table top from the same stone producer, Ylämaan Graniitti. ‘As I couldn’t find a dining table that I liked or that was the right size for my new home, I was inspired to add Silestone to the structure of the table.’ The diameter of the table top is 90 cm, so it fits perfectly into the space. ‘As it is the same material, the space looks like one. I am more than happy with my choice!’ she concludes.

With a functional and welcoming design, the fully-equipped flats of the Micampus Sinesio Delgado hall of residence are conceived to provide university students with everything they need. Located in a residential area of Madrid (Spain), this hall of residence offers accommodation with ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, central heating, 5G Wi-Fi and a modern kitchen built to withstand the heavy use and traffic of the different occupants.

Designed by the architecture studio Touza Arquitectos and with interior design by Julieta Barrionuevo, from the JUUBRN studio, Micampus has relied on Inmodeco Design to equip and design the kitchens in each of the flats. Here, Silestone has become the material of choice for worktops and splashbacks, providing a contemporary touch and a unique guarantee of durability.

Bildnummer 115 des aktuellen Abschnitts von Cutting-edge worktops for university residence hall flats von Cosentino Deutschland

Heavy-use kitchens

‘The worktops in a hall of residence are subject to heavy use,’ explain the designers. ‘The material must be very hard-wearing to withstand the wear and tear over the course of their service life. It should also facilitate daily cleaning and minimise the need for maintenance as much as possible,’ they continue. With this in mind, the material chosen was Silestone, as it meets all the requirements of this type of kitchen.

Due to its technical features, Silestone is highly resistant to scratches and knocks as well as to stains and acids common in everyday kitchen use. It is very easy to maintain and a very hygienic surface, making it the ideal solution for the kitchens of Micampus student flats.

Industrial and avant-garde style

‘Thanks to Silestone’s wide range of finishes, it was easy to find the one that best matched the design of the hall of residence and conveyed its identity,’ say the designers. The colour Cemento Spa was selected by the designers for these worktops. Its dark grey tone, reminiscent of the finish and texture of cement, adds an industrial and avant-garde touch. Combined with the wood tones, it creates a cosy and relaxed space, in keeping with the design of the rest of the room.

Cosentino’s warranty

In terms of project execution, the designers feel that working with Cosentino has been a great advantage. ‘Cosentino manufactures the worktops and guarantees the finishes without intermediaries, except in those cases where the intervention of a marble supplier is necessary. In such a case, Cosentino works closely with them to guarantee the quality of the finishes and compliance with deadlines,’ they explain.

Furthermore, Cosentino provides full support throughout the project cycle – from pre-sales to project management – and all its finished products come with a warranty. ‘It also gives us peace of mind that we are working with a company that will be responsive and provide service for the entire life cycle of the product,’ they conclude.

We’re traveling to the city of Surrey in British Columbia to visit a jaw-stopping high-end custom home surrounded by a lush green belt and forests as far as the eye can see. The homeowner is a well known fabricator in the Metro Vancouver area who was also the fabricator on this project.

Having worked with Cosentino in the past, he was confident in DKTN’s performance and aesthetic value. Selecting it as the material of choice gave him access to a wide variety of colors and designs that are available in varying thicknesses, making the material versatile and functional in any horizontal or vertical application.

DKTN Laurent’s dark backdrop with striking veins is the epitome of exclusivity and high-end design. The color creates a seamless indoor/outdoor living connection when used as a facade feature in the front entrance, allowing the linear aspects of the design to shine.

As soon as you walk into the home, you are greeted by DKTN Aura bookmatched on the living room wall while DKTN Entzo used as an art piece on a second story wall lit up by directional track lighting. Additionally, Laurent is featured in a wall adjacent to the staircase and spans from the main floor to the second level of the home. Finally, the color takes center stage in the kitchen where it was used as the countertop and full-height backsplash, perfectly playing off the warm wood of the cabinetry.

The bathroom spaces in this home are the definition of relaxation and elegance. The master bath features DKTN Vera, a color with a grayish background and pale veining is the perfect combination between natural and industrial. Vera is used as the vanity top, full-height wall cladding, and a backdrop feature on the free-standing tub. The shade provides a balanced contrast with the warm woods used throughout the space.

For the guest bath, the homeowner specified the visually striking DKTN Portum which has a sculptural pattern inspired by Portobello marble. The color is used to clad the floating vanity and full-height wall. DKTN Portum is also the star of the butler’s kitchen used as a countertop and wall cladding.

But that’s not all...DKTN continues to shine inside this home! The acclaimed color Rem was used for the built-in desk unit in the office space while Opera was specified as an inset wall feature in the guest shower. Finally, Silestone Calacatta Gold serves as a countertop and full-height backsplash in the family’s laundry room.

This home is living proof of the versatility and beauty of DKTN. The material’s assortment of designs, finishes, and thicknesses make it a one-stop-shop for any interior and exterior application.

Run by two Michelin-starred chef Christophe Hay, Fleur de Loire is a 5-star hotel that is part of the renowned Relais & Château hotel chain. This hotel, which is the culmination of a lifelong project, is a tribute to the pursuit of excellence and the most delicate art of living, something that can be seen in its carefully designed interior.

Caroline Tissier, an interior architect specialising in hospitality, is behind the design of this complex which occupies a former 17th century hospice and today houses 44 rooms, 2 haute cuisine restaurants, a Sisley spa, an exquisite pastry shop, several lounges… Her greatest inspiration? The near Loire river and its nature. “This natural environment has influenced the whole project, but at the same time we have kept in mind the standards of a luxury hotel”, says Tissier.

Together with her collaborator Charlotte Blanc Paque, Tissier designed an exclusive and light-filled interior space with contemporary pieces of furniture and silky fabrics which, in the interest of being as welcoming as possible, was planned as a large family home. A family home with an orchard and farm where the excellent ingredients for Hay’s menu are harvested.

A sculptural VIP table made from Sensa

Opposite this space is a very special table, a bespoke table made from Sensa and reserved for VIP guests, where it is possible to enjoy the culinary show while savouring the chef’s most special dishes. Unlike the rest of the tables, no tablecloth dresses this table, as its sculptural and dynamic pattern is more than enough to make it the star of the room. In addition, its surface has been treated with a revolutionary stain-resistant treatment that makes it durable despite daily use, making the use of tablecloths unnecessary.

The Sensa colour used embodies the overwhelming force of nature and brings visual richness to the room. Specifically, the colour chosen was White Macaubas in a bright polished finish, which was also used on a custom-made console table located elsewhere in the restaurant.

“Christophe Hay’s restaurant is the perfect place to discover the mastery of the chef. Located on the first floor of the main building, facing the river, its cosy and refined atmosphere welcomes guests, while its open kitchen allows them to watch the chefs at work”, says Tissier.

DKTN, the perfect ultra-compact surface for a professional and demanding kitchen

In addition to Sensa, other Cosentino products were chosen for the hotel’s culinary area. The kitchen worktop features DKTN Danae, a colour reminiscent of sand swaying in the desert thanks to the different shades of beige that cross its surface and capture the essence of the movement. It is also a very convenient surface, as it is resistant to abrasion, scratches, impacts, stains, liquids, extreme temperatures and even fire.

Last but not least, the floor, stand and shelves of the beautiful pastry shop are clad in Silestone Ethereal Glow. Its elegant gold and grey veining blends into a tinged white foundation, running through the slab and bringing colour to every corner.

“I was already familiar with Cosentino’s products, which provide a mineral and sophisticated atmosphere. It is its wide spectrum of designs and technical performance that seduces me; its strength, its beauty, its elegance”.

“According to the latest trends, integrated washbasins are becoming an increasingly popular choice when it comes to contemporary bathroom design. In this regard, Concept Cubicle Systems offers multiple washbasin options, including an elegant drainage system, facing front, side or centre”, explains the renowned Manchester-based Material Source Studio.

It is precisely there, in the Superloo installation, where it is possible to see some of the new models from the Sunlit Days Vanities collection, a new series of bespoke washbasins in bright trendy colours that has been developed by Concept Cubicle Systems in collaboration with Cosentino.

But, what is Superloo? Developed by Concept Cubicle Systems, Superloo is a self-contained, single-occupancy toilet cubicle that include a toilet, hand-washing and hand-drying facilities. In addition to their striking colours and sleek, modern design, these bathrooms stand out for offering maximum privacy to users in a gender-neutral environment, making them perfect for commercial environments.

Sunlit Days, the most sustainable ultra-compact surface available on the market

Cala Blue, Posidonia Green and Arcilla Red, three Mediterranean-inspired colours of the Sunlit Days by Silestone collection, are the stars of the Superloo washbasins. This Cosentino series is the first carbon neutral collection within the industry of quartz surfaces and engineered stone.

Sustainability is achieved by manufacturing Sunlit Days surfaces with 100% renewable energy and 99% reused water. In addition to this, Cosentino offsets any additional emissions through various UN-backed voluntary offset projects.

Furthermore, the Sunlit Collection is manufactured with HybriQ+ technology, which blends quartz, other premium minerals and recycled glass to create deeper colours, textures and finishes. Each slab uses a minimum of 20% recycled materials, ensuring that the Sunlit Days collection is a truly environmentally friendly solution.

A fresh, new look thanks to Sunlit Days

Claire Long, interior designer at Concept Cublicle Systems, fell in love with this collection, whose description reads as follows: “Sunlit Days is a journey through light and colour, with a fresh style and Mediterranean tones, inspired by human values and simple and profound ways of living”.

She says: “The rich mineral tones of nature have an impact on the colour selection of the new Sunlit Days collection: Arcilla Red, a striking yet soft earthy red that evokes a warm and welcoming feel. Cala Blue, an elegant and plain blue colour, beautifully soothing and connects us to the earth. And Posidonia Green, exuberant and cheerful; its fresh tone conveys a sense of well-being”, she explains.

The washbasins of the future, available today

All these colours have been used in the new cubicles, designed by Concept Cubicle Systems and custom-built to customer requirements using advanced manufacturing techniques. This has resulted in sleek, minimalist, modern, ultra-hygienic, easy-to-clean, one-piece integrated washbasins that, according to their creators, are ideal for retail, commercial and residential projects alike.

“Our Sunlit Days Vanities collection, developed in collaboration with Cosentino, is the culmination of a myriad of advantages in form and function, and has been designed to meet the practical and design needs of the contemporary bathroom environment, here, now and in the future”, Concept Cubicle Systems concludes.

Recapturing the spirit of the past and combining it with a fresh, functional and elegant atmosphere was the aim of Carlos Álvarez’s comprehensive refurbishment of this historic building. The original elements and materials have been preserved and merged with innovative surfaces such as DKTN and Silestone. These two Cosentino surfaces manage to establish a bridge between the past and the present in the refurbished spaces, being the main feature in the bathrooms and the kitchen, where they enhance a style halfway between classic and contemporary. In keeping with the context, both the original floor and the exposed brick walls have been retained. The result is a very personal home that strikes the perfect balance between past and present.

Two colours in dialogue

‘The ease of installation of the materials and the technical advice of the Cosentino team’ were for Carlos Álvarez one of the keys that paved the way for this refurbishment. This consisted of revamping the two main bathrooms with DKTN, a hard-wearing material that is perfect for these wet areas, thanks to its easy cleaning and simple maintenance.

Specifically, the colour chosen for one of the bathrooms was DKTN Albarium, which provides luminosity and refinement with its ecru and faded tone. This matt colour, which hides reflections and shine that simulate the marble dust, is paired with DKTN Kreta, used to cover the floor. Inspired by the ideal colour of cement, it brings a sense of serenity and balance to the space and blends in perfectly with the contemporary style of the room.

Romantic style

With a more romantic feel, another of the main bathrooms features a very interesting combination of textures and materials. In this case, DKTN Helena takes centre stage alongside wallpaper and exposed brick walls. Helena is a rich colour with a perfect balance between grey and white tones and a delicate distressed texture. This way, the depth of onyx – the natural stone that inspired this piece – can shine through. The wooden floors complete this bright bathroom full of details.

A kitchen with soul

The other room in which the dialogue between Cosentino’s innovative surfaces and the house’s historic past is clearly visible is the kitchen. Here, the hydraulic floor tiles have been preserved, creating a characterful atmosphere, as have the vaulted ceilings with exposed brick.

To highlight the aesthetic power of this traditional floor type and the original ceilings, the architect and designer selected Silestone Ethereal Glow for the worktops. A colour that shows elegant shades of gold and grey on a nuanced white background and can completely transform the kitchen into a bright and sophisticated space, while offering great resistance to stains and scratches.
