“The most interesting aspect of this project was to transform this large industrial-style loft – originally an old factory converted in the 90s – into a family home with a warm and homely atmosphere and, at the same time, an avant-garde design”, says Estudio Palombo, the studio in charge of the project.

For this transformation project, the studio opted for clean textures and white and neutral colours, finishing off the space with metal surfaces and different black shades of DKTN, which were softened with touches of wood.

The result is a 150 square metre home with separate spaces for the family: a big living room connected to the kitchen, a large dining room, a TV room for the adults, another one for the children, an office, a barbecue area…

DKTN Bergen for a natural, stylish and functional touch in the kitchen

In order to create all these separate spaces, a new mezzanine floor was built to increase the total surface area. Meanwhile, the use of glass doors allowed the illusion of continuity typical of lofts to be maintained: “We connected the kitchen with the social space but, at the same time, we managed to separate it through the use of iron and glass doors, leaving it exposed for decorative purposes”, the studio says.

In relation to this room, they further say: “The idea was to create a large bar top, but the loft originally had a smaller kitchen, so we had to extend it”. The space now features a huge and majestic island on two levels clad in DKTN Bergen. Inspired by natural Portobello stone, this colour strives for perfection in tone, structure and depth through the beauty of its greyish veins with sculptural pattern on a whitish background.

“It is a very warm design, with such a realistic veining that makes it look like natural stone but without the risk that comes with a porous material, as is the case with veined marbles”, the studio says. “It is the perfect mix of design and functionality”.

These properties are especially appreciated by the new owners: “Being in the food sector, the owners often cook and prepare special meals for their guests themselves. It was essential to choose surfaces that would not stain, damage or scratch and that could withstand high temperatures”, the studio further says.

DKTN Sirius, a textured black shade for a ‘visual impact’

As DKTN met all these requirements, it was also the material of choice for the worktop surface of the barbecue and office area, as well as for the large bespoke table in the dining area within the living room. In all cases, the colour chosen was DKTN Sirius, a black shade with a textured appearance and greenish hues that adds strength to the space. “We chose it to create a visual impact”, say the professionals.

DKTN was also the material chosen for the bar top. Specifically, the colour chosen was Kelya, a tone with a touch of uniqueness inspired by dark marbles and featuring a light veining that is perfect for creating the most sophisticated atmospheres.

“The major advantage of using DKTN was the peace of mind of knowing that the surfaces would stand up to daily use and, at the same time, knowing that we had achieved the look we wanted”, the studio says finally. All these reasons led the architects to use the same surface for the nightstands in the bedroom. And they even chose another Cosentino surface, Silestone White Zeus, for the bathroom countertop and washbasins.
