A marine sanctuary where the tranquillity of the ocean meets the charm of chinoiserie. That’s how the designers of MOM Designer House define their latest project: a flat by the sea in the city of Kota Kinabalu (Sabah, Malaysia). A project with a style that blends Asian tradition with the relaxed vibes of the sea, “integrating into the space touches of fantasy that celebrate both cultures”.
With a colour scheme of serene blues, vibrant wallpapers and imaginative details, the team has created a unique home in which the kitchen is the star. “The pièce de résistance of the project is undoubtedly the floating kitchen island, a marvel of both form and function,” they say.
This stunning central piece seems to levitate effortlessly, creating an illusion of weightlessness that captivates the eye. Its elegant and modern design, combined with meticulous craftsmanship and a choice of attractive materials, makes it a workspace that is both practical and a striking artistic statement. “This piece transforms the kitchen into a sophisticated hub of activity and elegance, elevating the overall aesthetics of the home,” says MOM Designer House.
Dekton Trance throughout the home
A large part of the island’s appeal is its Dekton Trance cladding, a dance of flowing colours in which a bluish veil runs over a background of creams and greys. Its refined veins gently transition into reddish-gold tones, creating a unique and soothing visual experience that is echoed in the kitchen front. Dekton Trance is also used on the breakfast bar, with spectacular views of the coastline, as well as on the bar side furniture and the bathroom countertop.
“Cosentino’s unique Dekton Trance combines with our design and catches the eye from the first moment. As the kitchen is the first thing you see when you enter the flat, the island quickly became one of the main features of this project”, says MOM Designer House.
Dekton Argentium for texture
Argentium, another Dekton colour, was chosen for the top of the exclusive bar in shades of sky blue. A neutral shade of grey, typical of lime plastering, which creates a visual texture that adds movement and depth to the whole.
“Dekton is highly resistant to scratches, stains, fire and heat, which makes it ideal for use in kitchens and bars,” say the designers, who were so taken by its beauty and strength that they decided to use it in several places throughout this luxurious home.
