This unique home in Buckinghamshire (United Kingdom) is set on a natural plot of over one hectare, combining beautiful gardens and woodlands. Its outdoor area has now been renovated to further enjoy this privileged setting. For this space, Kaoru Designs envisioned a minimalist yet warm aesthetic, inspired by both Japanese gardening principles and contemporary European architecture. Among the standout materials, the floors clad with Dekton Nacre bring character and functionality.
Exterior and interior connected
The extensive gardens surrounding the home, designed by Andy Sturgeon, Chelsea award winner, deserve recognition comparable to the design of the house itself. Designed to minimise the impact of the home on its rural surroundings, the garden boundaries are formed by a carefully curated selection of native boxwood and amelanchier, interspersed along the lawn edges with grasses, herbaceous plants, and a koi carp pond.
Thus, the home is located in an idyllic and secluded spot that is nevertheless close to excellent shops, restaurants, and schools, and just 40 minutes from London. With this exceptional landscape surrounding it, the fully glazed prefabricated house is perfectly connected to the outdoors.
This is further enhanced by the recent renovation carried out by Kaoru Designs in the outdoor areas. In this new approach, Dekton Nacre creates a recreational space that is both enjoyable and durable. “With its creamy tone reminiscent of microcement and its subtle veining, it was key to achieving this vision,” its designers state.
A new garden space to enjoy nature
Indeed, Kaoru Designs chose Dekton Nacre for its aesthetic versatility: “Its soft and neutral palette complements both natural and architectural elements,” they explain. Professionals also praise the material's durability: “It is resistant to UV rays, stains, scratches, and thermal shock, making it ideal for the UK's changing climate.”
The flexibility of formats in which the slabs are offered also played an important role in the selection of Dekton: “The large-format slabs (up to 327 x 147 centimetres) allowed for fewer joints and a cleaner visual continuity,” the studio explains. Experts also highlighted how the two-centimetre thickness, used in the main patio and pathway areas, provided greater structural integrity to the ensemble, which now shines like never before after this latest addition.
