Basement Boldness

For this kitchen, the customer was looking for a smooth, sleek design which was at once bold and blended in perfectly with the rest of their open-plan contemporary space. The handle-less Graphite and Polar White cabinetry create a simple, sleek, and stylish contemporary look. These marry beautifully with the Dekton Kelya worktops, whose veining detail adds an element of interest and luxury to the design, without detracting from its bold monochrome style. This basement flat formed part of a very old building and therefore came with a whole host of design and installation difficulties. For instance, its walls and ceilings were not straight, which meant that great care was required when designing and measuring the clean straight lines that make up the whole design, to ensure that they were perfectly parallel. Moreover, the customer wanted a new black floor in the kitchen area but also was keen to keep the wooden floor in the rest of the room. The kitchen floor therefore had to end in a place which perfectly marked the boundary between the kitchen area and the rest of the living space, without making the divide stand out. One of the biggest challenges, though, was maximising the relatively limited space this basement flat provided. The tinted grey mirror splashbacks completely open up the darkest corner of the room, while remaining in-keeping with the design’s colour scheme and contemporary feel. This design remains true to the brief right down to the finer details. Fitting flush into the worktop and including integrated extraction, the Falmec Sintesi 90 venting hob slots perfectly into the sleek design.
