Recapturing the spirit of the past and combining it with a fresh, functional and elegant atmosphere was the aim of Carlos Álvarez’s comprehensive refurbishment of this historic building. The original elements and materials have been preserved and merged with innovative surfaces such as Dekton and Silestone. These two Cosentino surfaces manage to establish a bridge between the past and the present in the refurbished spaces, being the main feature in the bathrooms and the kitchen, where they enhance a style halfway between classic and contemporary. In keeping with the context, both the original floor and the exposed brick walls have been retained. The result is a very personal home that strikes the perfect balance between past and present.

Two colours in dialogue

‘The ease of installation of the materials and the technical advice of the Cosentino team’ were for Carlos Álvarez one of the keys that paved the way for this refurbishment. This consisted of revamping the two main bathrooms with Dekton, a hard-wearing material that is perfect for these wet areas, thanks to its easy cleaning and simple maintenance.

Specifically, the colour chosen for one of the bathrooms was Dekton Albarium, which provides luminosity and refinement with its ecru and faded tone. This matt colour, which hides reflections and shine that simulate the marble dust, is paired with Dekton Kreta, used to cover the floor. Inspired by the ideal colour of cement, it brings a sense of serenity and balance to the space and blends in perfectly with the contemporary style of the room.

Romantic style

With a more romantic feel, another of the main bathrooms features a very interesting combination of textures and materials. In this case, Dekton Helena takes centre stage alongside wallpaper and exposed brick walls. Helena is a rich colour with a perfect balance between grey and white tones and a delicate distressed texture. This way, the depth of onyx – the natural stone that inspired this piece – can shine through. The wooden floors complete this bright bathroom full of details.

A kitchen with soul

The other room in which the dialogue between Cosentino’s innovative surfaces and the house’s historic past is clearly visible is the kitchen. Here, the hydraulic floor tiles have been preserved, creating a characterful atmosphere, as have the vaulted ceilings with exposed brick.

To highlight the aesthetic power of this traditional floor type and the original ceilings, the architect and designer selected Silestone Ethereal Glow for the worktops. A colour that shows elegant shades of gold and grey on a nuanced white background and can completely transform the kitchen into a bright and sophisticated space, while offering great resistance to stains and scratches.

High durability and care for the environment thanks to Dekton, Silestone and Sensa

Common areas to relax in, stunning roof terraces, two swimming pools, barbecue huts, lounges, gym… The second phase of Element 27, the first rental community in Western Australia, has just opened its doors in a luxury setting with every possible amenity.

Element 27 is also a sustainable complex, with charging stations for electric cars, energy-efficient appliances and innovative strategies for water and energy treatment. As a result, it has become Australia’s first carbon neutral flat community.

To obtain the strength that the materials of a rental flat require, the sophistication inherent in this high-end complex and the respect for the environment that Element 27 embodies, the award-winning firm Hillam Architects had it clear: Cosentino surfaces would be their reference product.

“Any Cosentino surface is extremely hard and resistant to stains and marks. This development was built for rental purposes, so the durability of the materials is very important”, explains the studio. And they further say: “Seamless shower walls and trays are a great advantage in terms of maintenance, especially considering Perth’s hard water. At the same time, Cosentino products offer a visually appealing quality”.

In fact, Sentinel, the developer of the complex, always uses materials from the Cosentino brands in their projects: “Sentinel’s overall policy is to use Dekton, Silestone or Sensa by Cosentino for worktops, splashbacks, etc. This helps to maintain consistency between the projects they own and manage, and to ensure a global supply chain”.

Powerful and sophisticated colours

The worktops and fronts in Element 27 feature Cosentino surfaces. Specifically, the material used was Silestone Charcoal Soapstone with a velvety Suede finish. Inspired by the popular soapstone, this tone has a blue-grey finish with strong grey veins, which stands out for its character, depth and movement.

Silestone was also the material of choice for the worktop and front in the laundry area. In this case, Miami White’s warm shade and glossy Polished finish was chosen. In the bathroom, the walls are clad in Dekton Opera, a colour inspired by the elegant Italian Carrara marble thanks to its simple light grey veining that adds depth and character to its creamy white background.

Meanwhile, the shower tray features the Kador Suite model, a rectangular-shaped tray with a contemporary style, for which Silestone Kensho Suede was chosen. Its silky, harmonious grey surface creates environments with an Asian and Zen touch, which makes perfect sense given the decorative aspects of the project.

A rich, textured colour palette inspired by high-end ceramics

“The design of Element 27 responds to the identity of the Fine China precinct, where the complex is located. The rich material palette used for the project conveys the industrial heritage of the site, while blending in with the materiality of the surrounding developments”, says the studio.

In addition, the details of its façade, specially the nuances in its pattern, allude to the subtle variations in texture and colour of this type of ceramic.

For instance, Silestone was used for the walls of the lift and the custom-made desk at the entrance of the building. In this case, the colour chosen was Calypso, a sober and refined tone that adds contrast and depth to bright spaces.

Last but not least, a different Cosentino material was used for the worktop in the barbecue area. The surface chosen was Sensa Black Beauty, an Indian granite with exclusive anti-stain protection. With its black background crossed by white veins reminiscent of the foam of the waves in a wild ocean, this tone is perfectly suited to the richness that Hillam Architects wanted to capture.

‘A jewel in the heart of Singapore’s shopping district.’ Mandarin Gallery, a high-end shopping centre in Orchard Road, is home to some of the world’s leading international brands as well as an exclusive range of independent boutiques.

On its three floors, it also boasts a fine selection of haute cuisine restaurants, such as La D’Oro. The establishment, run by chef Yohhei Sasaki, has received rave reviews since its opening just a few months ago.

Its cuisine is ground-breaking, as it is Italian at heart, but cooked with Japanese techniques and ingredients. According to Mandarin Gallery management, it is ‘a combination of Japanese precision, Italian passion and the best seasonal ingredients from both countries’.

Cosentino, chosen for its wide variety of marble-like colours with stain-resistant properties

The restaurant features an interior design to match its high culinary qualities, by the renowned firm Asylum Creative, assisted on site by EDZ Interior Contracts. In order to create a stylish and refined atmosphere, dark tones have been paired with luxurious textures, touches of gold, an interplay of glitter and reflections, and innovative shapes.

‘We were looking for surfaces that offer a marble-like appearance, with a variety of colours and patterns to choose from, but at the same time are stain resistant,’ explains the studio. So they turned to Cosentino’s products: ‘It has a wide collection of colours inspired by different marbles, and they meet the requirements for surfaces where food and beverages are handled because they are easy to clean, even when it comes to wines and other foods that can stain them,’ says the firm.

Textures with depth and polished finishes for a stylish atmosphere

Thus, Cosentino’s surfaces have been used in this restaurant for multiple applications: to begin with, Silestone in its Ethereal Glow colour has embellished the bar in La D’Oro’s relaxed dining room. This tone is characterised by its elegant gold and grey veining, which blends into a tinged white foundation, running through the slab and bringing colour to every corner. Furthermore, it has been selected in a polished finish, which gives a more vibrant and intense colour and reflections, enhancing the sumptuous feel of the establishment.

Providing a beautiful contrast to this white, Cosentino’s ultra-compact Dekton surface, in its Kelya colour, has been used for the bar cladding. It draws its inspiration from sumptuous dark marble with light veins.

For the bar in the restaurant area, Silestone Eternal Noir has been chosen, a delicate pattern inspired by the asymmetry and elegance of natural stone, also in a polished finish. Its straight lines and sober design make dark spaces feel warm and elegant at the same time.

Functionality and beauty – the perfect match for designers comes from Silestone

The main feature of the flooring in this area is Silestone Snowy Ibiza in a polished finish, an exclusive white tone with subtle light grey veining. What’s more, Cosentino’s products also shine on the worktop in the reception area and in the bar surrounding the open-plan kitchen.

Both spaces are finished with the distinctive Eternal Marquina, a great favourite for sophisticated style decoration. Evoking the Spanish black Marquina marble, this option offers a bold black background crossed by strong and intense details and white veins.

Finally, for the worktop in the open-plan kitchen, Silestone’s Iconic Black colour in a polished finish has been preferred. This is a resounding, pure and perfect black which, enhanced with N-Boost technology, intensifies the colour and makes it last longer.

‘In Cosentino we have found the best selection of marbles, which suit the design and function of the space. Working with them has been great, as they combine functionality and beauty – the perfect match,’ concludes the Asylum Creative studio.

An old duplex in Barcelona, with small, dark and chaotic spaces, has been brought back to life thanks to the modern renovation project by GV419 +arquitectura, which stands out for its large, welcoming, open and bright spaces.

To this end, the layout was completely rethought: now located on the ground floor is the living and dining area, with an open plan kitchen. As white is the main colour used throughout the house (in combination with wood and touches of gold), Silestone Cincel Grey was the colour of choice for the kitchen. In the words of the architects, this colour is “reminiscent of a microcement finish, but offers much better performance” and it was used for both the worktop and the splashback.

Indeed, this Silestone finish features a versatile neutral grey shade which balances easily between warm and cool shades. In addition, it stands out for its pleasant Suede finish, which offers a velvety texture and full colour consistency.

But, according to the professionals in charge of the project, in addition to its design, this Cosentino product stands out for its extraordinary properties: it is resistant to scratches, impacts, acids and stains, and offers extra hygiene, making it perfect for a room like the kitchen.

Silestone Glow Suede: high brightness and a unique texture

Also on the ground floor is the children’s bedroom and a small bathroom, as well as two beautiful terraces with panoramic views of Barcelona. Upstairs, meanwhile, there is a wonderful master bedroom with a dressing room, a work area and a large open-plan bathroom with separate toilet and shower cubicles, where Silestone Ethereal Glow Suede stands out.

“Silestone Ethereal Glow Suede has allowed us to deal with all the elements of the bathroom with great precision. This finish was chosen for its luminosity, thus avoiding a dark background for the suite. In addition, it has a very elegant veining and its Suede finish offers a touch that a natural marble surface could never offer”, explains GV419 +arquitectura.

A bespoke washbasin unit made in Silestone

The jewel in the crown is in the centre of the en-suite bathroom area, in the form of a large washbasin unit made entirely in Silestone. The oak drawers and the washbasin taps, with separate spout and mixer “for added visibility and style” round off the unit. This product, which stands out for its elegance, is made of 24-carat brushed gold and belongs to the Ministar collection of the Spanish tap manufacturer Maier.

The shower walls and tray in this bathroom also feature Silestone Ethereal Glow in large format slabs. “The machining process in the workshop made it possible to accurately fit Maier built-in shower taps, in this case with up to five channels for the different functions: hand shower, wall jets, rain, waterfall and spray”, the studio says. Furthermore, the kitchen is also fitted with Maier’s taps; in this case, a pull-out tap with two functions in matt nickel.

Cosentino: end-to-end support

“Once the details of the bathroom were defined, we worked side by side with Cosentino‘s commercial department, which allowed us to check every last detail of the manufacturing process. Cosentino was also commissioned to manufacture the centrepiece of the washbasin unit, achieving an excellent result”, the studio says.

The studio is very satisfied after using the brand’s products: “Cosentino City Barcelona is a great space to work with the client and get to know the wide range of products that the company offers, their technical features and all the installation possibilities, which made it easier to make a quick decision on the materials to be used for this project”, the studio says finally.

Finnish interior designer Sanna Siik is renowned for her clean, Scandinavian-influenced style. Now, after several years specialising in new build projects, refurbishments and fixture design, she has imprinted her neat mark on her most important job: the house of her dreams, where she and her family will live.

The heart of the home, and of the overall design, is the kitchen: ‘I started planning our house, focusing mainly on the kitchen. I wanted each piece of furniture, vase, appliance, and so on, to have its own space. I also wanted to have enough room for recycling,’ Siik recalls.

With this in mind, the professional designed a spacious and bright white kitchen integrated into a single unit. ‘The whole kitchen has a timeless, bright, simple and elegant look,’ explains Siik. In addition to this large main ‘cupboard’ there is a very functional island, topped by a Silestone worktop.

Eternal Serena Suede, the perfect Silestone colour for a kitchen with Nordic flair

‘I work as an interior designer for the distributor Kastelli, so I did already know about Cosentino materials and their properties. That is why I chose a Silestone worktop in a calm and subdued colour, Eternal Serena Suede.’

The earthy background of this colour in grey and green, with a soft, pure white veining, matches perfectly with the Huurre tone of the kitchen doors, the Festa model from Keittiömaailma. Its earthy look also evokes the softness and lightness so typical of Siik’s style, which is further enhanced by the suede finish. It is reminiscent of the texture of suede, giving the surface an irresistibly silky and pleasant feel, with full colour consistency.

Silestone, a 25-year warranty against stains, scratches and knocks

However, beyond its excellent feel and appearance, Siik also selected the Silestone worktop for practical reasons, which have to do with the other features integrated into it. Thus, the expert installed a Bora Pure induction cooktop with integrated cooktop extractor on the island, as well as a black sink, a sober shade that blends perfectly with the overall colour range of the room. ‘We are an active family with children and I do a lot of cooking, so I knew it was good to have the tap near the hob,’ she explains.

Considering the above, Silestone, the most sustainable and cutting-edge hybrid surface of premium minerals available on the market and manufactured with the exclusive and innovative HybriQ technology, came out on top of the rest of the worktop options. This was because it is highly resistant to stains and acids common in everyday kitchen use, as well as to scratches and knocks. In addition to all this, Silestone is a material that is easy to maintain and comes with a 25-year warranty.

‘After a year since the kitchen was installed, I can definitely say that we are all delighted with it. It is very practical as each item has its own place, recycling is easy and all materials are of high quality – living in our new home is wonderful!’ assures Siik.

There was a time when the fates of Norwegians and Americans were intertwined. It all began in 1910 with the establishment of the shipping company Den Norske Amerikalinjen, which served the route between Oslo and several ports in North America. A little less than a decade later, in 1919, the shipping company opened its headquarters at the port of Oslo.

Today, the stunning and elegant neo-baroque building is brought back to life in the form of a luxury hotel that honours the discoveries made by those Norwegian pioneers on the other side of the Atlantic: jazz, Hollywood, road trips and rock and roll. In short, everything that represented the new ‘freedom’.

Quality, innovation and uniqueness for the new Amerikalinjen

The establishment, which is now called Amerikalinjen, offers 122 rooms and suites. Behind its façade, which has been left intact after the renovation, is the Atlas Brasserie restaurant, the Pier 42 cocktail bar (named after the famous New York pier), the roofed Haven patio and the Gustav jazz club. Its new interior spaces are defined by their quality, innovation, attention to detail and exclusivity in the choice of materials, furniture and lighting.

Thus, in order to represent the casual opulence of the new hotel as well as its rich past, Puroplan, a Finnish studio specialising in this type of establishment, chose Silestone. This hybrid surface, made from premium minerals and recycled materials, is the most sustainable and cutting-edge surface available on the market and is manufactured with the exclusive and innovative HybriQ® technology. Specifically, Silestone was the material of choice for tables, reception desks and bar tops.

Classic marble colours and high durability for a luxury cladding in Silestone

The understated shade of Eternal Marquina was used for some of the tables in the lobby, as Silestone allows for the creation of bespoke furniture thanks to its horizontal claddings featuring unique luxury designs.

Eternal Marquina was also used for the bar top at the Pier 42 cocktail bar. This colour evokes the Spanish black Marquina marble, providing a bold black background crossed by strong and intense details and white veins. Last but not least, this colour is also used at the reception desk, providing consistency between the different areas of the hotel.

In contrast to Eternal Marquina, the material chosen for the tables in the Atlas Brasserie restaurant was Silestone Eternal Statuario. Inspired by another classic stone, in this case the well-known Italian Carrara marble, Eternal Statuario features a white surface with very subtle and bright grey veining. This colour is a combination of subtle and harmonious shades against a background that stands out for its unique depth.

These spaces, which are highly exposed and subject to heavy wear and tear, required a high quality material that would ensure an unaltered appearance year after year. That’s why Puroplan chose Silestone, a surface that is resistant to stains, acids, impacts and scratches, easy to clean and with a 25-year warranty. It is thanks to decisions like these that the new Amerikalinjen looks to the future with the same commitment to permanence that has kept its headquarters standing for more than 100 years.

An exclusive, refined, elegant space with extraordinary properties. This is the bathroom designed by NORMALEARCHITETTURA° in a private residence in Milan, using Dekton surfaces with light veins reminiscent of the famous Carrara and Calacatta marbles. The goal? To achieve a spacious and refined look.

The studio, founded in 2008 by Chiara Filios and Arnaldi Arnaldo, is known for having carried out very different projects, ranging in scale and type and addressing the broad spectrum of areas covered by today’s architecture: renovation of school classrooms, office design, creation of auditoriums, urban planning, landscaping, and so on. Naturally, there is also room in its long history for the design of private residences, including the home that includes this very special bathroom.

A greater sense of spaciousness thanks to Dekton Aura

‘The most interesting architectural and decorative feature of the project is the white tone, reminiscent of Carrara marble. This allows more natural light to flood in, which gives the bathroom a noticeably larger appearance than the actual surface area. The dimensions of the selected slabs allow them to be installed with a great scenic effect, and the quality of the reproductions of the veins makes it possible to fit the slabs together, giving them continuity,’ explains the firm.

The colour they refer to is Dekton Aura, whose use of colour and veining patterns recall the feel of the noblest materials thanks to its ability to reproduce the harmony of natural stone and its timeless elegance. As a matter of fact, thanks to their high resistance to scratches, stains and even fire and heat, Dekton’s ultra-compact surfaces remain as good as new for (at least) 25 years, as certified by their warranty.

Reduced thicknesses to make installation even easier

‘The performance and the formal quality of the product’ were precisely two of the main reasons why NORMALEARCHITETTURA° chose this Cosentino material. In this case, a thickness of 4 mm was chosen for the wall cladding, while a thickness of 8 mm was used for the floor, in the same shade. ‘The reduced thicknesses make it possible to optimise the installation from both a functional and aesthetic point of view,’ explains the studio.

‘The white tone and the quality of the reproduction of the veins was what made us fall in love with it,’ say the owners of the house. ‘The size of the slabs provides the bathroom with a unified effect,’ they continue.

Perfect white and non-porous shower tray

The confidence of both designers and users in Cosentino products was such in this project that they were also used for the shower tray. Specifically, the Silestone Wakka shower tray was chosen in the Iconic White colour, a perfect, bright white enhanced with N-Boost technology, which intensifies the colour and makes it more durable.

In addition to its powerful aesthetics, this sophisticated piece without vertical joints also has features that make it completely irresistible in terms of functionality. Thus, apart from all the aforementioned characteristics that they share with Dekton, Silestone shower trays offer a low water absorption (due to their almost zero porosity), which makes them highly resistant to water and humidity. What is the result? A surface that is very easy to maintain and will look as good as new for years to come.
