Tennis and Design Join Forces To Support Aladina Foundation Projects And The Niño Jesús Children’s Hospital
December 19, 2017
‘In unity there is strength’. This saying was on display last night at the charity event held at Cosentino’s showroom in Madrid by the Mutua Madrid Open and Cosentino Group, the international Spanish firm and leader in the production and distribution of innovative surfaces for the architecture and design sector. It was an emotional event that attracted the attention and support of different celebrities for the actions of the Aladina Foundation and the improvement projects planned for the Niño Jesús University Children’s Hospital in Madrid.
‘Cosentino City Madrid’ served as the location and the ideal setting for a charity drinks event where various objects tied to the company from Almeria and the Masters 1000 tournament were auctioned off to attendees. The star item was an impressive ping-pong table made of the ultracompact surface Dekton® by Cosentino and bearing the signatures of many of the world’s best tennis players who competed in this year’s Mutua Madrid Open. The table, which was signed by such stars as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Garbiñe Muguruza, Simona Halep and many others, was sold for a total of €1,500.
Also auctioned off were a few spectacular paintings provided by the tournament and signed by the specialist sport portraitist Víctor Jerez, namely two 100 x 80 cm acrylic paintings made on site during the semifinals of this year’s Mutua Madrid Open. One, a portrait of Rafael Nadal, was signed by the tennis player from Manacor himself, while the other, which portrayed Novak Djokovic, was signed by the Serbian tennis star. Bids for the two canvases reached a combined value of €2,200. Including the other objects and items donated by both entities, the event raised €6,000 in total, which the organisers will send to both the Aladina Foundation and the Niño Jesús Children’s Hospital in Madrid.
Manolo Santana and Gerard Tsobanian represented the Mutua Madrid Open at the event, while the Spanish firm was represented by Santiago Alfonso, Vice President of Communications and Marketing. Aladina Foundation Director Ishtar Espejo attended the event on behalf of the Foundation, while César Gómez Derch, the managing director of the Niño Jesús Hospital, represented the paediatric centre.
This charity auction was born of the existing synergy between the two entities, principally considering that Cosentino, through its Dekton® brand, has been a sponsor of the Mutua Madrid Open since 2016, an agreement that was recently renewed for next year. At the same time, both the firm and the tennis tournament have different experiences and maintain an active level of collaboration with the improvement projects taking place at the Children’s Hospital. For example, Cosentino donated various Silestone® surfaces in Iconic White to make worktops, facings and hand-washing stations at the ICU of the children’s hospital; the Aladina Foundation acted as a driving force for this project, which officially opened a year ago.
Meanwhile, the Mutua Madrid Open is currently supporting the centre’s improvement project for a new Therapy Unit. This project is one of the many charity works the tournament has carried out with the Niño Jesús Hospital. In fact, next Thursday, Manolo Santana and Alberto Berasategui will visit the children’s hospital to distribute the toys collected during the ‘One Game, One Toy’ event held last Saturday at the Ciudad de la Raqueta sports centre in Madrid.
