The Block 2025 Back of House Week: where function meets design

This week on The Block, contestants reached a major milestone: the completion of their homes’ interiors. The Back of House spaces — laundries, butler’s pantries, mudrooms, and garages — proved that functionality and beauty can coexist when design is supported by premium materials.

From the timeless elegance of Dekton® to clever layouts and bold styling choices, each team delivered a unique interpretation of how “everyday spaces” can become design highlights.

1st Place – Brit & Taz | The Golden Standard of Functionality

Brit & Taz impressed the judges with their harmonious balance between practicality and sophistication. Their butler’s pantry and laundry were standouts — perfectly planned and styled with precision.

Every surface spoke of purpose. Sleek benchtops, generous storage, and complementary tones brought the space to life, proving that design synergy and high-performing materials make all the difference.

The garage, doubling as an art gallery, featured gold walls, curated lighting, and a flawless finish that reflected true craftsmanship — a testament to how the right material choices elevate even the most functional rooms.

2nd Place – Han & Can | Refined Curves and Dekton® Sophistication

Flowing seamlessly from their kitchen, Han & Can’s Back of House spaces told a story of continuity and luxury.
The hero? Dekton® Targa benchtops, delivering a cool, tactile sophistication that instantly caught the judges’ eyes.

Darren Palmer described the stone as “deliciously refined,” while Shaynna Blaze praised how it anchored the design’s calm aesthetic.
In the laundry, mudroom, and powder room, Dekton®’s sleek surface provided the perfect blend of durability and style, effortlessly withstanding the demands of daily life while maintaining a designer finish.

Their garage, complete with a striking Grafico mural and geometric lighting, sealed the deal — a space as memorable as it was practical.

3rd Place – Sonny & Alicia | Bold Colour Meets Texture

Sonny & Alicia took a creative approach, delivering a Back of House filled with personality.
The butler’s pantry, adorned with Baltic Blue cabinetry and framed by stone surfaces of exceptional character, created a striking contrast that complemented their kitchen perfectly.

Their powder room became a true showpiece — dramatic, layered, and undeniably luxurious.
As Darren put it: “It’s so high-end it’s kind of ridiculous.”

Here, every texture mattered: from the smooth finish of the stone benchtops to the richness of the tiles, it was a sensory experience in materiality.

4th Place – Robby & Mat | When Scale Defines Luxury

Robby & Mat’s approach was all about space and proportion — and their expansive butler’s pantry made an immediate impact.

With benchtops built to endure and perform, the room offered both form and function in abundance.
The tropical-inspired mudroom and powder room brought energy, but it was the butler’s pantry — featuring beautifully finished stone surfaces — that reminded the judges that in homes of this calibre, bigger really is better.

5th Place – Emma & Ben | Strong Vision, Missed Opportunities

Emma & Ben showcased beautiful cabinetry in rich ‘Toasted Chestnut’ and ‘Hawthorn’ tones paired with stylish tiles and fixtures.
However, the layout left the judges wanting more.

Their Back of House spaces demonstrated potential — a reminder that thoughtful surface placement and flow can transform even the most practical rooms into cohesive design stories.
