The colour palette that will bring an authentic and cosy touch to any space

At a time when design seeks to reconnect with the essence of people and the environments we inhabit, the colour palette takes on renewed prominence. Colour is no longer just an aesthetic matter but an emotional, cultural, and narrative tool.

This is confirmed by the book Shaping Tomorrow: Future Design & Architecture 2025-2026, presented by Cosentino, a pioneering document that analyses how spaces are being transformed and the role materials, colours, and textures play in this evolution. Among its most revealing conclusions is a clear inclination towards palettes that convey authenticity, warmth, and connection with nature. The colours we choose for our homes and projects should not only beautify but also make us feel at home.

The power of colour to connect us with our roots

This book features the vision and work of two leading figures in design, communication, and colour: Enric Pastor and Judith van Vliet, both authors of this trend book.

Enric Pastor is a journalist specialising in design, architecture, and interior design. He currently leads the magazine MANERA, where he explores design from a fresh and cross-disciplinary perspective, and regularly collaborates with brands and institutions to analyse the impact of trends on the spaces we inhabit.

Judith van Vliet, on the other hand, is an international colour consultant and founder of The Color Authority. With a strong background in colour research and design, her work focuses on understanding how colour influences emotions, decisions, and environmental perception.

Judith states that colour not only decorates but connects with our deepest emotions. As we gather from the macrotrend 'Origen' in the report, there is an increasing desire to return to our origins, connect with cultural roots, and allow our idiosyncrasies to flourish.

“Returning to the origin means using hands while creating, almost as a counter-movement to the growth of artificial intelligence within the design community. Creating by hand with locally available resources brings authenticity to creations.”

A timeless and warm colour palette

Origin proposes a selection of earthy and organic colours with unexpected tones, drawn from feelings of nostalgia for our past. Burgundy red is the focal point of the palette, inspired by the native pigment derived from the cochineal insect, flanked by a vintage lemon green and a cactus green, more serious and sober. The base colours are a warm greyish neutral, reminiscent of sandy and dusty horizons, and a reddish earth brown that feels like a warm, comforting embrace and the true colour of heritage.

The Origin palette, defined by Judith van Vliet in collaboration with Cosentino, features a range of five key tones that, combined or used individually, create an intimate and timeless atmosphere that connects the past and present:

  • Essence: A captivating tone embodying authenticity and sincerity. This shade, close to white, with subtle hints of yellow and touches of green, radiates the purity of its natural origins.
  • Vintage: A vibrant chartreuse green, inspired by vintage aesthetics, radiating a deep connection with nature. This tone fosters a necessary harmony, reflecting nature's unlimited potential.
  • Heritage: A sunlit earthy terracotta. Its orange side exudes warmth and optimism, bringing joy and emotional strength, reconnecting us with nature.
  • Cochinilla: A rich and deep burgundy red that exudes warmth. This traditional colour from Latin America is inspired by the cochineal insect, representing the richness of its natural resources and a tribute to tradition.
  • Cactus: A soft, delicate, and natural green with a yellow base inspired by cactus plants and other succulent vegetation that survive in harsh and dry environments.

This warm and organic palette helps create enveloping and human atmospheres, especially in domestic contexts. Spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and outdoor areas gain comfort and personality when dressed in colours that evoke natural elements: earth, stone, vegetation, sun...

Materials that strengthen the connection with our heritage

Under the Origen trend, we find a selection of four colours from Cosentino's portfolio inspired by natural pigments with centuries-old heritage or fossilised stones with earthy and textured touches.

Umber by Dekton: The Umber colour from the Kraftizen collection is a warm terracotta inspired by natural pigments. The textured surface adds character and warmth, ideal for cosy spaces.

Cosentino has just launched C·Bath, its comprehensive approach to bathrooms. A selection of leading international designers and interior designers have been brought together to help us draw a picture of tthe ideal bathroom. In recent years we have seen how this space, previously relegated to mere functionality, has increasingly become the main feature. Nowadays, bathrooms are just as important as other spaces in homes and commercial premises, such as restaurants: they are a letter of introduction to our guests and clients, as well as a place of privacy and relaxation for families in their own homes.

Avorio by Dekton: Light-coloured with a natural finish, Avorio is inspired by the homonymous stone, an Italian material characterised by the presence of fossilised shells. Its design makes it particularly suitable for applications requiring design continuity on edges.

Petrified Wood by Prexury: An exquisite natural creation, petrified wood forms when tree layers are replaced by minerals through the fossilisation process. With over 240 million years of age, Prexury's petrified wood has been carefully crafted by skilled artisans who select each 'log' based on colour and crystallisation. It is then cut and hand-worked to create incomparably rare products that bring the ancient essence of nature into modern interiors.
