Casa Contêiner Cosentino at CASACOR São Paulo 2019

Case Studies, News, Top Products, Top Projects

Marilia Pellegrini Arquitetura used Dekton by Cosentino® to help transform two industrial shipping containers into a luxurious and minimalist home. Designed for CASACOR São Paulo 2019, Pellegrini’s Casa Contêiner Cosentino (Container House) featured Dekton® Opera on the kitchen benchtops, splashback and bathroom wall.

CASACOR São Paulo is the largest architecture, interior design, and landscape design show in North and South America. Held during June and July, CASACOR’s 33rd edition, themed “Planet House,” featured 75 houses, apartments, lofts, living rooms, bathrooms and studies. Consentino collaborated with 19 of the exhibiting designers who used Dekton®, Silestone® and Sensa®.

Marilia Pellegrini set out to show that the cold and impersonal environment of an industrial shipping container could be transformed into a beautiful and calming modern environment through the impeccable use of materials. Inspired by what Kenya Hara, creative director of MUJI, calls the aesthetic of “emptiness” – the Japanese version of simplicity – Pellegrini eliminated anything excessive or superfluous, while ensuring the shipping container is wholly imperceptible.

Pellegrini joined two containers together to create the 60-square-meter house with a living area, kitchen and laundry on one side, and bedroom with ensuite on the other. White materials create a greater sense of spaciousness and reflect natural light for a brighter environment.

Dekton® is used to create a unified and sophisticated finish. Dekton® Opera is inspired by elegant Carrara marble, and features on the kitchen benchtops and splashback, paired with crisp white joinery. The sink can be concealed with a small slab or Dekton® to provide more bench space, and a cut-out handle allows it to be easily lifted out.

Large slabs of Dekton® Opera feature on the bathroom walls, and a timber vanity adds texture and warmth.

Pellegrini’s intention is that the pavilion could serve as a studio or guest house on an existing property. Its restrained and beautiful design complements the natural and built surroundings and provides a calm and comfortable environment for living.
