The clients – a family with three teenagers and a Golden Retriever – wanted a modern, minimalist home with built-in storage, rather than freestanding pieces. They engaged Michelle Broussard of Colour Confidence Interiors to design the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and the joinery in the living room, study and outdoor area, as well as bedroom WIR’s and cloak room. Michelle selected Dekton® Domoos to create a consistent, cohesive and uncluttered aesthetic throughout.
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom house has oversized spaces with high ceilings and large windows. The colour and material palette needed to have impact to suit the magnitude of the spaces while also creating a sense of comfort and intimacy for family living. Michelle selected a black material palette, including Dekton® Domoos, to achieve this effect and to minimise the palette for an uncluttered home.
Cosentino material application:
Kitchen and butler’s pantry
The kitchen is an important hub of the house, physically and figuratively. It is the epicentre for family life and an important visual element within the ‘great room’, which has lofty 6-metre-high ceilings. Black joinery and a lower ceiling height in the kitchen and butler’s pantry help to give the great room a sense of human-scale. The black surfaces also have bold visual impact, while receding into the space.
Dekton® Domoos benchtops are a dark and inky colour and a family-friendly surface. The large format size reduces joins for a sleek, minimalist look, and the durable surface requires minimal maintenance or upkeep. With three teenagers in the house, Dekton® is very easy to clean with liquids simply wiping away. It can also withstand heat, which means hot dishes can go straight from the oven on to the kitchen island, making family dinners easier.
The choice of Dekton® Domoos influenced the selection of the other benchtops, splashbacks, cabinetry and appliances for creating a sophisticated black kitchen. Dekton® Domoos is paired with a concrete-look stone surface on the upstand of the kitchen island and the splashbacks in the kitchen and butler’s pantry. Polytec matt black cabinetry, like Dekton®, is a fingerprint-proof material for cupboards and drawers, and black and stainless-steel appliances, including “must-have” black induction cooktop and downdraft, blend with the benchtops and cupboards.
Living room and study
Dekton® Domoos and Polytec cabinetry are also used for the built-in joinery in the living room and study to eliminate freestanding storage pieces. The consistent and refined use of materials creates a modern, minimalist look and a cohesive aesthetic throughout the house.
The living room joinery built in to both sides of the rendered fireplace wall can be used for storage and display space, and located beneath the windows, the sunlight brings out the rich hues of Dekton® Domoos. The ultracompact material also provides a durable and easy-to-clean surface for the corner desk and bookcase in the study.
Bathrooms and laundry
The five bathrooms and laundry are designed in keeping with the other rooms in the house, utilising the same material palette and consistent aesthetic. Dekton® Domoos provides a hardwearing surface for vanity benchtops and is impervious to inadvertent marks or spills from the client’s teenage children.
