The kitchen in this contemporary house in Perth by Moda Interiors has been renovated and modernised to complement the unique architecture, with Silestone and Dekton surfaces offering timeless appeal, sophistication and high performance.
Wanting to create a warm and inviting kitchen with a wow factor, designer Kate Barakovska, managing director of Moda Interiors, drew inspiration from the unique architectural curves of the house to create a seamless, functional space. “I didn’t want the kitchen to look like an afterthought or an obvious renovation,” Kate says.
The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area is united by curves, timber and white surfaces. Timber joinery stretches along the wall, providing cupboards and drawers for storage, and wine fridges conveniently positioned at the head of the dining table. Timber also frames the white cabinetry in kitchen, and a timber shelf over the kitchen island conceals the rangehood and is decorated with trailing plants.
The kitchen island provides the sought-after wow factor with the benchtop sweeping up and over the base and LED strip lighting illuminating the timber. Kate selected Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold for the benchtops for numerous reasons. “I wanted materials that were high performing and could guarantee longevity,” she explains. “They also needed to be timeless and oversized but give me flexibility to achieve a point of difference in the design.”
Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold ticked all the boxes, providing the desired colour, texture, elegance and advanced performance properties. Inspired by natural stone, Silestone Eternal Series has through-body colouring and inherent variations in veining. Calacatta Gold reproduces the coveted Italian classic white marble Calacatta with grey, blue and golden veins. The surface works beautifully with other natural materials, such as timber, and the large-format size allows for continuity, reducing the number of joints and increasing seamlessness. Silestone is extremely hard and resilient and is highly resistant to scratches, stains and impact, ensuring its longevity.
Across the room, timber joinery around the television emulates the dynamic curve of the kitchen island benchtop, with Dekton Zenith providing a durable surface for shelving.
The result is a modern kitchen, dining and living area that complements the architecture of the house with surfaces that will endure both aesthetically and practically.
