Cosentino is the surface of choice at the 2020 TIDA New Zealand Kitchen Awards

The Trends International Design Awards (TIDA) celebrates great home design across the globe and Cosentino was delighted to feature in 15 of the award-winning, New Zealand kitchens. We spoke to three of the designers in the Imported Kitchens category about their designs and use of Cosentino surfaces, and we send our congratulations to all designers recognised in this year’s (online) ceremony. data-lazy-srcset= Winner – Lara Farmilo, Akzente/Poggenpohl, featuring Dekton® Opera Dekton® Opera is the star of the show, cladding the kitchen island, benchtop and splashback in this modern townhouse in Westmere, Auckland. “The clients asked for simplicity in the kitchen,” says designer Lara Farmilo. They wanted their kitchen to be a soft, calming backdrop to their family living space, and they love to cook and partake in catering every now and then, so functionally was most important.” Lara selected a minimal material palette for the compact kitchen, teaming Dekton® Opera with timber and stone-grey cabinetry. Dekton® Opera clads all sides of the kitchen island to create a sculptural block effect that emphasises the striking grain that runs seamlessly around all edges. data-lazy-srcset= Runner Up – Damain Hannah, German Kitchens, featuring Dekton® Aura 15 Natural bush and native birds surround this house located on the rural outskirts of Wellington. “The clients wanted to accentuate the natural surroundings and to create the feeling of almost being in the bush, so we had to be careful not to over-design the kitchen, and to work with colours that complemented the natural aspects of their vista,” says Damian Hannah. The kitchen surfaces needed to be robust and hardwearing for the clients’ rural lifestyle, and all-day sun in the kitchen and scullery meant there was glare to contend with. “I specified matte Dekton® Aura 15 benchtops to reduce the glare factor and provide a hardwearing, scratch resistant and heat resistant surface that would cope with everything the chef could throw at it,” Damian says. data-lazy-srcset= Highly Commended – Julia Shuttleworth, Hacker Kitchens, featuring Dekton®  Bergen and Silestone® Iconic Black “The island is the pièce de résistance,” says Julia Shuttleworth of this family kitchen. Building their forever home, the clients wanted a house that would look as good in 25 years as it does today. It also needed to be durable and robust for their large extended family that enjoying gathering and cooking together for special occasions throughout the year. Clad in Dekton® Bergen, the large kitchen island is the focal point of the space. “We wanted the island to make a statement,” says Julia. “We finished it in white high gloss to fully allow the Dekton® Bergen to shine and draw your attention to the centre.” Its colour and beautiful veining stand out against the backdrop of black and timber cabinetry, while to the side of the kitchen, Silestone® Iconic Black benchtops are complemented with black mosaic splashback.   2020 TIDA New Zealand Imported Kitchens (continued) Finalist – Damian Hannah, German Kitchens, Dekton® Domoos and Dekton® Kairos Finalist – Lara Farmilo, Akzente/ Poggenpohl, featuring Dekton® Trilium   2020 TIDA New Zealand Designer Kitchens Highly Commended – Leonie Hamill, Cube Dentro, featuring Dekton® Sirius Highly Commended – Kirsty Davis Kitchen Design, featuring Silestone® Et Serena Suede Highly Commended – Annika Rowson, Rowson Kitchens, featuring Dekton® Domoos Highly Commended – Jessica Valintine Design, featuring Dekton® Sirius Highly Commended – Michelle Gillbanks, Kitchens by Design, featuring Dekton® Opera and Dekton® Orix Highly Commended – Nicola Manning Design, featuring Dekton® Opera Finalist – Colleen Holder Design, featuring Silestone® Pearl Jasmine   2020 TIDA New Zealand Architect-designed Kitchens Highly Commended – Mark Frazerhurst Architects, featuring Dekton® Sirius Finalist – Sang Architects, featuring Silestone® Doradus
