Eco choice – Dekton® Trilium and Radium

News, Top Products

Sustainability and the industrial aesthetic are mainstays in design and architecture, but the two can often be at odds with each other. Dekton® surfaces Trilium and Radium are inspired by oxidised metal but made with 80 per cent recycled materials.

Dekton® is a sophisticated blend of the raw materials used to produce the very latest in glass, porcelain and the highest quality quartz surfaces. Surfaces are manufactured with a process that represents an accelerated version of the metamorphic change natural stone undergoes when subjected to high temperatures and pressures over thousands of years. The result is a revolutionary high-performance surface with extra strength and zero porosity.

Dekton®’s Industrial Collection pays tribute to this metamorphic change and the oxidisation process that creates rich, complex and beautiful imperfections in stone and metal. Cosentino is committed to using advanced and sustainable manufacturing process and two surfaces within the Industrial Collection, Trilium and Radium, are made with 80 per cent of their content recycled from excess materials, such as off cuts and discontinued stock. Edgy to the eye but smooth to the touch, these surfaces are distinctive and modern with a rough, expressive aesthetic.

Trilium is a mix of volcanic shades of deep grey, black and rusty tones, inspired by oxidised stainless steel. The surface was introduced in 2016 as the first colour in the Industrial Collection, and for the first time Dekton® used recycled materials in its manufacturing process. It duly picked up numerous prizes, including Premio Diseño e Innovación 2016 from Fuera de Serie (Spain); Best of the Year 2016 from Interior Design (United States); and Product of the Year 2016 from Architectural Record (United States).

A deeper and darker surface, Radium captures the visual texture and colour variation of rusty, acid-degraded steel plate with warm earth tones against cool blue and green tints.

Unlike the materials that inspire it, Dekton® is impervious to the elements, including scratches, stains, UV rays, fire and heat. Its ultra-durable performance makes it an ideal solution for indoor and outdoor applications, and large-format sizes allow for continuous surfaces without cuts or joints.
