Australians’ love of home renovations has been reflected on our television screen in recent years with more and more programs dedicated to inspiring property makeovers. One of the latest was the Lifestyle Channel’s Love It or List It, hosted by Andrew Winter and Neale Whittaker, which helped homeowners decide whether to renovate or pack up and sell.

Not surprisingly, it was the kitchen in each home that captured our attention throughout the season. We’ve included a roundup of the kitchen designs for each episode to help you get the look.

Wide open spaces
Episode 7 – Park Orchards

This family of 11 had quite a task to get their home in order. Neale helped them by creating a modern floor plan that combined the kitchen and adjacent living room to create one open space with generous storage required for a big family.

The kitchen features Silestone in Snowy Ibiza 40mm Mitred Pencil Round. This luxurious surface complements the crisp white joinery, simple chrome handles and herringbone tiled splashback. Sleek Godfrey copper pendant lights hang above an island bench, which has space for three Winnie black stools from Huset Furniture. It’s a kitchen fit for a family of 11.

Then and now
Episode 8 – Jindalee

Neale balanced the classic 60s characteristics of this home by introducing some contemporary touches. The kitchen is perfectly positioned in the home to capture natural light that bounces off the simple white joinery. Attention is immediately drawn to the graphic square tiled splashback and the elegant Silestone benchtops in Blanco Maple Orna 20mm.

All together now
Episode 9 – Donvale

This five-bedroom home provided adequate space, but the floorplan prevented the family of five from spending quality time together. Neale’s ability to unify the floorplan convinced them to stay rather than sell. The kitchen features Silestone benchtops in Blanco Orion 20mm Pencil Edge. The island bench cantilevers to allow for extra seating, and elegant white stools from Sokol were selected to complement the overall kitchen design.

Light and space
Episode 10 – Rozelle

The laundry of this semi-detached terrace home in Rozelle was once tucked under the house like a cave. Neale liberated the space and created a contemporary European laundry that sits discretely behind elegant joinery next to the kitchen. The benchtop is Silestone in Lyra 40mm Mitre Pencil Round and the warm LED strip lighting above the bench ensures that, unlike the former laundry cave, the space is well lit and inviting.

Double the space
Episode 3 – Canterbury

A family of nine was pushed for space in this 2-3 bedroom Californian bungalow. Not only did Neale redesign the internal floor plan, he also added an eight-metre extension to the back of the house to double its size.

The kitchen features a mix of white and black cabinetry, a timber laminate island, a handmade subway tile splashback and Silestone benchtops in Yukon 20mm Pencil Round Edge. Open shelving also allows the family to display a little more of their personality in the space.

Green with envy
Episode 5 – North Coburg

A Melbourne couple considered relocating to Queensland before Neale revealed new possibilities for the North Coburg home that they’ve lived in for a decade.

The new kitchen features a classic black and white palette with a distinctive green tiled splashback from Tiento Tiles that wraps around the Silestone Blanco Zeus 20mm Pencil benchtop. The spacious island bench also features Silestone and the design allows for stools to discreetly tuck beneath it.
