Greenwich Kitchen – A showpiece kitchen for a family who loves to entertain

News, Top Projects

A luxurious and contemporary kitchen is the showpiece of this restored and renovated early-twentieth century home. With Silestone® Eternal Calacatta Gold benchtops, dark timber panelling and a coffered ceiling, it is an elegant, hardwearing and state-of-the-art kitchen for a family who loves to entertain.

The house, on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore, is home to a family of four. They engaged Mi Designer Styling to renovate the house and to activate the rear of the property with a statement kitchen that would provide a new focal point for the house. Their brief asked for more space and light, and cabinetry that feels more like custom furniture than traditional kitchen joinery. “The clients wanted it to be as spacious as possible, highly functional and practical and with a chic relaxed and luxurious vibe,” says Sarah Tilley, business owner and interior designer at Mi Designer Styling. Opening onto a terrace, it also needed to accommodate the client’s lifestyle and love for entertaining.

With an elegant choice of materials, Greenwich Kitchen radiates contemporary chic while sensitively acknowledging the Federation charm of the house. The design team cleverly concealed existing beams with illuminated ceiling coffers and covered the floor with herringbone concrete and timber tiles. Silestone® Eternal Calacatta Gold benchtops provide a light contrast and complement to the timber-textured black cabinetry accented with gold and brass hardware.

The design team selected Silestone® Eternal Calacatta Gold for its texture, which the clients also couldn’t resist. “We were drawn to the satin smooth finish of the suede and the marble look without the issues of maintenance,” says Lucy Ward, interior designer at Mi Designer Styling. “The gold elements in the veining also enhance the gold features in the kitchen.”

Emulating the coveted white marble it is named for, Calacatta Gold has grey veins and subtle gold flecks that add freshness and detail to the kitchen. The gold also heightens the impact of the metallic tapware, sink and custom brass rangehood.

Undoubtedly the new focal point of the house, this statement kitchen provides an opulent contemporary space for the family to gather, host and entertain.
