A conversation with Karim Guirguis, Regional General Manager of the Cosentino Quebec, Ottawa, & Atlantic Canada

Karim Guirguis is the Regional General Manager of Cosentino Quebec, Ottawa, and Atlantic Canada. As a 15-year veteran of the tile industry and a designer, his passion for the company does not go unnoticed from his staff to the clients he serves. We recently sat down with Karim to learn about where he fits within the A&D community and how his showrooms are genuinely impacting Canadian interior design projects.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I grew up in Montreal, studied Design at Concordia University and have been in the tile/solid surfaces industry as a team leader for over 15 years. I was able to grow along with the A&D community as a supplier of high-end surfaces and as a fellow designer who understands the creative process, clients’ needs, challenges in design thinking and budgets. I’m passionate about art and architecture; I love to travel to get inspired and see other cultures, perspectives, and realities worldwide. I surround myself with other creative and passionate individuals professionally and personally. That has always been the secret to my success throughout my career and in my personal life. As a true French Canadian, I love everything related to good food, good wines, and a good balance between work and social life. I work hard and play hard.

What makes you a great fit for the Cosentino team?

Although Cosentino is an international company with centres worldwide, it is still a family-owned company managed locally. We’re far from just being a number, and higher management is easily accessible. I always look to hire dynamic, and passionate teammates.  Working for Cosentino means working for an ever-evolving company where change, technology and design are at the core of its mission. Cosentino’s avant-garde design appeals to my creative side, and its technical advancements reassure me as a designer. I’m very proud to be working for a company where sustainability is an integral part of its values.

Take us through an average day through your role as the Regional General Manager of the Quebec, Ottawa & Atlantic Canada region.

There’s nothing like an average day at Cosentino. I take care of many aspects of our operations, from researching specification, supporting my teammates in product knowledge sessions, and visiting job sites. Living in Montreal, I try to spend a few days at our Ottawa Centre every second week and the other in Quebec City, Beauce or Stanstead areas.  I enjoy spending time on the road with my sales force, getting feedback from the field, meeting customers, learning about their challenges, getting to know their business better, and discovering new opportunities. I enjoy seeing our customers’ reactions when we pass by with samples or a new program.

What can design professionals expect when visiting the Ottawa Center? Quebec Center? Montreal City Center?

Professionals in the design industry can expect a dedicated and passionate team to cater to their needs. We have beautifully designed showrooms that show large format slabs and applications in both Silestone and Dekton. Our local teams know our products’ technical features and have a design background. So, designers feel right at home in a contemporary space and Cosentino ambassadors can answer any question or assist with any design challenges. I’m very proud to say that as a designer, I would recommend our showrooms to any design professional for all types of projects.

What essential features set the Ottawa Centre apart from other design showrooms in the industry? Quebec?

Both centres are connected to warehouses where our customers can see full slabs to make the right decision for their projects. Along with Silestone and Dekton, we also have a large inventory of natural stone slabs, marbles, quartzite and granite slabs. This makes it easy for customers and professionals to choose the right slabs for their projects. Our Montreal showroom is in the old port area and is not connected to a warehouse. But this space is interactive; surfaces are showcased in full slabs, and samples are available for our clients.

These showrooms differentiate themselves from any other design showrooms because they are new, interactive, showcase full slabs, and offer expertise from professionals in our industry.
