A look inside Dream Lottery’s French country-inspired cottage

Designing for good! Cosentino recently teamed up with Casey’s Creative Kitchens by donating the surfaces for the 2021 Dream Lottery grand prize cottage located in beautiful Grand Bend, Ontario. The Dream Lottery helps fund London’s hospitals’ patient care, equipment, research, and education.

The beautiful 4,436 square foot home was designed by award-winning stager designer and president of Upstaging Limited Jillian Summers. Taking inspiration from the French Country, the cottage offers an incredible abode for relaxing and entertaining. We caught up with Jillian to hear more about this special project and her design process.

What was Casey’s Creative Kitchens involvement in the Dream it Win it Grand Prize Cottage?
Casey’s supplied all of the cabinetry and counters (donated from Cosentino) for the entire home. Supporting London Hospitals has always meant a lot to me. Especially now with the current situation with Covid. I love to give back and do my part to help raise as many funds as possible. After all, we will all need the care at one time or another. I have been designing dream homes for many years now. It is a passion of mine to give back.

Where did you find your inspiration for the design of the dream cottage?
I wanted the cottage to have all of the amenities of home while still being away from it all, up at the cottage. The custom hood range and a huge island in the kitchen were the inspiration, and then we just continued from there. I wanted an island large enough to seat as many people as possible since that is the place most people hang out when entertaining. I love the soft neutral palette that we used, and the counter selections ensured a timeless feel to be enjoyed for many years to come. Using a soft neutral palette helped us to achieve the calm relaxing cottage feel.

What is your favourite part of the Dream Home?
That’s a tough one as I love all of it! I would say the great room with the vaulted ceiling and the kitchen are my favourites! Silestone’s Calacatta Gold is my favourite countertop. I love the lines of it and the movement in the stone without being overpowering in the space.  It has a beautiful, timeless feel, and it really goes with a variety of styles. It ties in the cabinetry perfectly! I love the versatility of it, as it mixes well with gold or brushed nickel and chrome.

Dekton Lunar was used in the bathrooms throughout the home. Can you tell us why you chose Dekton in Lunar?
I wanted to use something a bit different in the bathrooms.  Seeing that I used a warmer cabinet colour in some of the bathrooms, I felt switching up the counter was important.  In particular, the basement bathroom has more of a vintage feel and the counter blends perfectly!

What is your best advice to consumers looking to renovate their kitchen or bathroom?
My best advice would be to make sure you have a style in mind that you want to create, select a colour palette that is timeless and still makes you excited. Don’t be afraid to mix metals. It really does look great!  If you are unsure, hire a designer, even if it is just to confirm your choices.
