An elevated experience with Cosentino materials

Located atop a building in Sabah, Malaysia, Penthouse Sky Cafe & Lounge represents a step forward in the sky lounge concept, offering a sensory experience that combines architecture, interior design, and landscape. Through its large windows, the space opens up to spectacular views of the city and mountains, becoming a setting that changes with the daylight. The project, designed by MOM Designer House for the client Penthouse, is a tribute to height, “to the feeling of being suspended in the air, between the clarity of dawn and the nocturnal glow of the city,” as they explain.

The studio conceived the 151-square-metre venue as “a vertical sequence where movement and light are the true protagonists.” In this interplay of planes and levels, the central double height and sculptural staircase set the spatial rhythm, aiming to create an elegant and immersive atmosphere with textured surfaces, deep tones, warm lighting, and a material palette where Cosentino plays an essential role.

The entrance, clad with alternating wood and marble panels, leads to a wine cellar illuminated by warm light. In the main area, cream-toned upholstered chairs and coral-coloured woven stools face a robust bar, surrounded by soft textures and continuous surfaces. Glass block walls filter light subtly, while brass details and metallic reflections enhance the sense of understated luxury.

In this context, the use of Dekton and Silestone addresses both aesthetic and functional criteria. On the main bar, Dekton Argentium provides brightness and visual clarity, reflecting the natural light entering through the windows and balancing the intensity of darker tones. Alongside it, Silestone Parisien Bleu introduces a sophisticated contrast, a blue note “that connects with the sky and reinforces the concept of elevation.” At the base of the counter, Dekton Sirius acts as a counterbalance: its matte finish and tactile strength convey stability and permanence.

Other materials from the brand complete the composition. In the lobby, Dekton Trance adds warmth and texture by cladding part of the wall, while Silestone Bohemian Flame creates golden nuances and visual depth, extending the amber glow of the displayed bottles into the interior.

Beyond its aesthetics, the project demonstrates a deep understanding of materials and their behaviour in high-demand spaces. “We were looking for resilient surfaces, capable of maintaining their beauty even with intensive daily use,” explain MOM Designer House.

“Cosentino materials guarantee that durability without compromising refinement: they are resistant to heat, humidity, and scratches, essential qualities in a hospitality environment where functionality is as important as appearance,” they conclude.
