Great Canadian Backyard Series: Sherwood Outdoor Kitchens creates the ultimate entertaining outdoor living space

Sweeping pool-side views, plenty of green space and a patio fit for exceptional entertaining, we’re taking a look at Sherwood Outdoor Kitchens’ Southlands project. Located in the equestrian hub of Vancouver, this beautiful backyard space features a built-in bar and outdoor kitchen space using Dekton surfaces for countertops and cladding.

Designed for gathering and entertainment, the newly developed backyard of the Southlands home needed to include a kitchen space that could handle anything from a champagne soiree to a wild pool party. The large backyard space was an essential part of the newly built custom home’s design. The homeowners emphasized the importance of hosting the entire family and holding grand social gatherings. The space already included an inground pool, an artificial turf area for sports, and a large patio. The homeowners believed the addition of an outdoor kitchen would round out the space while making it fully functional for everyone to enjoy.

Focusing on the kitchen space, it was a priority to include some luxury features. Sherwood Outdoor Kitchens worked on featuring a 42” Hestan grill and a large-scale pizza oven to give the family multiple cooking zones when hosting large groups. They also included a champagne bin, acting as a built-in chilling zone for beverages.

Sherwood Outdoor Kitchens looked to Cosentino’s Dekton line of ultra-compact surfaces for the countertops and kitchen cabinetry cladding. After consulting the homeowners, they collectively chose Dekton Domoos in 2cm due to its modern aesthetic and superior stain, scratch and heat resistance. The surface material is also ideal for outdoor spaces, thanks to its weather resistance.

One of the technical challenges of the project was the countertops because of the multiple sizes required. Dekton’s precision and versatility upon installation made it the obvious choice for the entire project, including the integrated ice trough for beverages.

Additional features Sherwood Outdoor Kitchens integrated into the space included built-in speakers for playing music while relaxing and entertaining, a large TV in the kitchen area for catching game highlights while working the grill, and plenty of countertop space for prepping and serving food during large parties.
