Great Canadian Backyard Series: Urban Bonfire, Kerrisdale Lumber and Sherwood Outdoor Kitchens team up to create a backyard that dreams are made of

Urban Bonfire, Kerrisdale Lumber, and Sherwood Outdoor Kitchens recently joined forces to create a spectacular outdoor living space in Vancouver's Shaughnessy neighbourhood. The homeowners had finished renovating their backyard and deck after realizing they wanted to spend more time entertaining outside. Adding an outdoor kitchen and entertaining space was a natural progression of the renovation. We connected will all three companies to learn more about this impressive backyard and what sets it apart from the neighbours.

Although the client had an existing deck space, they wanted to clean it up and utilize it to extend their home. The space includes two levels: the upper deck being the cooking area and the lower tier for entertaining and dining. The inspiration behind this design was to create a space for gathering and entertaining friends and family. Being a sizeable multi-level space, the goal was to make each zone purposeful but still feel connected to the overall flow of the area.

The client wanted the upper part of the kitchen to have a sink, high-end Hestan built-in, and a side burner. They wanted the lower deck to have ample counter space for entertaining with a fridge to keep drinks and food cool. A warming drawer was also included under the grill to keep food warm. Durable cabinetry that would remain fresh-looking through all seasons was an important request. This client loved the look of natural stone but was not wanting to do any maintenance, which made Dekton’s Aura the perfect material.

One of the more significant challenges Kerrisdale saw during this project was the deck size. The previous outdoor kitchen was a straight unit, but they wanted to change it to an L-shape to accommodate for more working space. The lower deck was a horizontal shape previously but has now been changed to a vertical shape to allow for more walking space and an ease of moving between the kitchens.

Built to last, the outdoor space turned out exceptionally well with beautiful aesthetics paired with ultimate functionality.
