Urban Bonfire and Dekton transform a Southern Ontario garden retreat

What was once a simple outdoor plot was transformed into a sophisticated garden retreat designed for everyday enjoyment. This striking Southern Ontario project brought together expert partners, including outdoor kitchen specialist Urban Bonfire, landscape architects Earth Inc., and Cosentino with their flagship Dekton ultracompact surface.

Crafted for a young family with two children, the design organizes the property into a series of flowing, functional zones. Whether relaxing by the fire pit, enjoying a meal under the canopy of trees, or preparing dinner outdoors, the homeowners are surrounded by materials selected for their aesthetic and functional benefit.

Dekton Keon was specified for the expansive countertop of the custom Urban Bonfire kitchen, an essential feature of the entertainment zone. Inspired by the look of concrete but engineered for ultra-high performance, Dekton Keon strikes the perfect balance between modernity and durability. Its subtle texture and gray tone complement the Chantilly powder coating of the kitchen cabinetry and echo the stone facade of the main house, tying the entire design together with effortless, modern sensibility.

The custom exterior kitchen anchored by Dekton features everything you could dream of for an outdoor cooking experience: a 42-inch grill, integrated refrigerator, sink and faucet, and ample storage and prep space. As a gathering point for food prep, casual drinks, and conversation, the Dekton countertop functions as a workspace and social hub, perfectly encapsulating the project ethos.

The choice of Dekton was also crucial in achieving visual continuity across the property. Designer Kennedy McRae of Earth Inc. explained that one of the biggest challenges was integrating the existing patio elements into the new design. Dekton’s color palette and large format slabs helped achieve the clean, seamless look they were seeking.
