Bespoke credenza, DeKauri becomes another award-winning project by Daniel Germani and Cosentino

Cosentino recently partnered with Italian furniture manufacturer Riva 1920 to create DeKauri, a state-of-the-art piece designed in collaboration with renowned architect and designer Daniel Germani using Dekton by Cosentino. DeKauri debuted last January at the 2018 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Orlando, Florida and won Silver at the Best of KBIS 2018 Awards for the Best of Bath category. It will make its way to Milan, Italy next month in time for Salone del Mobile.

DeKauri is a freestanding enclosed bathroom vanity crafted from 50,000-year-old Kauri wood from New Zealand, exclusive to Riva 1920. It is some of the most ancient wood found on earth. Germani designed the piece using ultra-compact Dekton for the countertop for its beauty and extreme durability.

DeKauri takes inspiration from the traditional Italian credenza, bringing elegance and functionality into the bathroom. Germani designed the freestanding piece to hide and conceal both the sink and storage, taking away the feeling of being in a bathroom. He envisions DeKauri being featured in a master suite, a powder room, or even in an open-concept bedroom where the sleeping space and bath flow into one another.

With a washbasin crafted from Dekton by Cosentino and Kauri wood used for the credenza (above), Germani’s use of materials pays homage to the resilience of Mother Nature: the technology behind Dekton captures the beauty of natural stone with unparalleled durability, and the Kauri wood – excavated from New Zealand where it has been buried under mud and water for thousands of years—adds a truly exotic feel to the piece. A faucet from Fantini Rubinetti and lighting from Juniper Design complete the look. As an alternative, DeKauri can also be constructed from inlays of Walnut, Wenge and Cedar (left).
