Tucked into the quiet charm of Calgary’s Lake Bonavista neighbourhood, this 2024 renovation project is a stunning example of thoughtful transformation. Designed by Stephanie Martin Interior Design, with fabrication and installation by Dauter Stone and general contracting by Marvel Cabinetry and Renovations, the upper 1,808 square feet of this bungalow were reimagined into a warm, sophisticated executive home perfectly tailored to reflect the lifestyle of its professional homeowners.

The vision? A seamless blend of everyday functionality and timeless style, rooted in durability, ease of maintenance, and a love for entertaining. From the start, the homeowners, both lawyers with demanding careers, sought a space that could shift effortlessly from relaxing sanctuary to vibrant gathering place. Cosentino materials played a key role in bringing that vision to life.

A Renovation Grounded in Personality and Purpose

Before the transformation, the home had seen a patchwork of renovations over the years. After living in the space for some time, the couple engaged the design team to create something truly cohesive both in look and in function. One key move? Repurposing an unused bedroom to craft a spacious ensuite and a second dressing room, adding comfort and luxury to their day-to-day routine.

To echo the couple’s appreciation for travel, design, and the joys of hosting, the design team selected a rich, layered material palette grounded in performance surfaces by Cosentino. Interior organizers, warm textures, and smart millwork made the space elegant, yet effortlessly functional.

Dekton Taga: The Heart of the Home

The kitchen island is undeniably the heart of this home. Designed as the central gathering spot for wine nights and dinner parties, it features Dekton Taga from the Stonika XGloss Collection, a surface that is as resilient as it is refined.

With its non-porous composition and resistance to scratches, heat, and staining, Dekton Taga is an ideal choice for a household where cooking, pouring, and celebrating are daily joys. Visually, it introduces an organic movement to the space, with subtle veining and a warm, natural palette that complements the home’s overall softness.

A 2-inch mitered waterfall edge adds architectural weight and polish to the island, making it a showpiece that’s equally beautiful and functional.

Silestone Poblenou: A Balanced Counterpoint

To create depth and contrast, Silestone Loft in Poblenou Suede was selected for the kitchen perimeter surfaces, ensuite counters, and a practical “drop zone” in the living room. This material offers a soft matte texture and understated elegance, perfectly suited to everyday use.

Its suede finish lends a tactile, velvety quality that contrasts gently with the high gloss of the Dekton Taga. It’s these layered materials that give the kitchen its sense of dimension, grounded, warm, and inviting.

An Elevated Backsplash, Seamless in Design

A striking design feature of this kitchen is the full-height Dekton Taga backsplash, which wraps around the window, drawing the eye upward while providing durable protection from spills and steam. The continuity between the island and backsplash creates a cohesive, enveloping feel, clean and modern without sacrificing warmth.

The Living Room Focal Point: Dekton Kelya

The original wood-burning fireplace was a beloved element the homeowners didn’t want to lose. Instead, it was elevated with Dekton Kelya Natural, used on the mantle, surround, and hearth.

With its earthy veining and deep tone, Kelya adds a sense of drama while offering exceptional heat resistance, a crucial benefit for any working fireplace. The natural variation in the stone helps conceal soot and ash, making it practical as well as beautiful. Paired with the warmth of the surrounding wood textures, the fireplace has become a refined and grounding focal point.

A Cohesive, Durable, and Beautiful Home

From kitchens to living spaces, every decision in this home was made with intention—from layout and function to finish and performance. The selection of Cosentino materials was essential in creating a home that could truly support the lifestyle of its owners.

  • Dekton surfaces brought peace of mind with their unmatched resistance to heat, stains, and scratches, especially in high-use areas like the kitchen and fireplace.
  • Silestone added comfort and style to daily routines, providing durable beauty in softer zones of the home.

Together, these materials offered versatility, elegance, and resilience, contributing to a space that feels both modern and timeless.
