Milan Design Week: “Dektonclay” designed by Apparatu

Dektonclay by Apparatu is a must-see exhibit being featured at this year’s Milan Design Week. Cosentino presents Dektonclay, a new project designed by Apparatu which explores the versatility of Dekton® ultra-compact surfaces. This project is a result of the collaboration that started three years ago between Cosentino and the Spanish ceramic design studio lead by Xavier Mañosa. Dektonclay will be on display during the 15th edition of Milan Design Week until April 9th in Room #1 via Cesare Correnti 14.

Throughout the Dektonclay exhibit, Xavier Mañosa explores the concept of the Kitchen, creating a collection of pieces that focus on cooking and eating expressed through one material. Mañosa uses Dekton ultra-compact surfaces in Spectra XGloss for every part of the kitchen, including a table, kitchenware, furniture pieces and even much of the kitchen itself.

“I chose this Dekton® XGloss finish specifically because its spectacular glossy surface which contrasts with the matte finish of the moulded pieces that serve as a support, thus creating a very powerful glossy/matte visual effect,” explained Xavier Mañosa.

The entire project was created through the process of modelling, pressing, extruding, firing and pushing the malleability of the material in different artisanal processes. The aim of the ceramist was to discover new ways of working with Dekton®, to find out how the material behaved under different temperatures and conditions of density.

If you are in Milan for Milan Design Week, be sure to preview the Dektonclay by Apparatu exhibit in Room #1 via Cesare Correnti 14 during the hours of 10am-8pm.
