Princess Margaret 2020 Showhome Kitchen Serves Up Elegance and Functionality
The 2020 Princess Margaret Showhome designed by Brian Gluckstein has created yet another gorgeous, aspirational home to raise money for cancer research. Designed with dual-functionality and elegance in mind, the kitchen is the pulse of the Oakville home featuring a spectacular oversized island with integrated appliances, a striking double-sided fireplace and beautiful bold fixtures.
The Island
The kitchen island countertop uses Dekton’s Sterling in 2cm thickness. Sterling resembles Travertine, a form of natural limestone with a textured tan appearance. The island cladding for the cabinetry drawers and the dishwasher used Sterling in 8mm thickness. The stone continues down to the flooring underneath where the stools sit, creating a sculptural element. Brian featured a reverse bevel for the profile of the island, to create the look of a floating countertop. Beautiful and functional, using Dekton ensures the island is stain, scratch, and heat resistant, so the lucky future homeowners won’t have to worry about being hard on their surface.
The Countertops
Brian featured both open and closed storage throughout the kitchen space, including floating shelves made using Silestone’s Yukon Blanco in 2cm. Yukon Blanco is a perfect white tone with fine shades of grey. The same shade was used as the perimeter countertops surrounding the cabinets in a waterfall effect on both sides of the cooktop and for the backsplash with stainless steel insets to tie in the range hood and the cooktop.
The Fireplace
Rounding out this beautiful space is the double-sided fireplace, a feature that provides warmth and ambiance, and adds to the open floorplan. The fireplace was cladded with Dekton’s Glacier in 12mm. Glacier features subtle natural veining in golden tones set across a polished white background. The deco-inspired fireplace features the same colour palette used throughout the space to create a monochromatic design statement. Sleek, stepped deco lines frame the fireplace to perfection.
