Next up on our Great Canadian Backyard series, we head to Toronto where Urban Bonfire and Outdoor Kitchens & Cabinetry by Outeriors created an outdoor living space that makes every city dweller envious. Complete with a beautiful inground pool, lush gardens, and an outdoor kitchen fit for the best of home chefs, this family of four is definitely spending more time in their incredible backyard this summer.

We headed to Toronto to speak with Daniel Albo, President of Outdoor Kitchens & Cabinetry about the project.

Briefly describe the outdoor space

The outdoor space of this home is highlighted by a beautiful inground pool with a large sun deck. The outdoor kitchen is situated just off of the sun deck at the bottom of an upper deck off of the main house in the middle of all the action. Opposite to the pool are gardens and a leisure area. The property includes a large yard, plentiful lighting, and an outdoor audio system.

What inspired the homeowners to build an outdoor kitchen?

The family has two young boys who love being outside and playing in the water. The addition of the outdoor kitchen allows them to spend as much time outdoors as possible while entertaining and spending time with their family and friends. Every comfort that they enjoy inside, is recreated outdoors.

Were there any challenges with building the outdoor kitchen space? If so, how did you overcome those challenges?

Since the location of the outdoor kitchen was central in the yard, it needed to look great from all angles. The Urban Bonfire cabinetry system chosen by the clients allowed for a complete finished look from front and back, adding style and detail to the project. The client saw Dekton Keon on display in the Outdoor Kitchens & Cabinetry by Garage Living showroom and chose it right away! Dekton has many incredible colour offerings and the client appreciated all of the Dekton benefits. They wanted a maintenance-free material designed to last in Toronto’s climate.

Do you have any insight to share when it comes to building an outdoor kitchen space?

It is always ideal to use the best products and services available. Using premium materials and products, like Dekton by Cosentino and Urban Bonfire, allows you to enjoy the space for a longer period of time with less maintenance. Layout and design are also key to achieving functionality in a visually-appealing package. An ideal outdoor kitchen must have a great layout with ample counter space, high-performance appliances, and materials that will stand the test of time in outdoor Canadian environments.
