Cosentino celebrates 40 years of international growth and expansion
May 11, 2020
April 14, 2020, marked the 40th anniversary since the creation of the commercial company “Mármoles Cosentino S.A.”, the beginning of what would become Cosentino S.A. and eventually the Cosentino Group. The second-generation family transformed a small marble processing workshop in 1980 with 17 workers in Macael, Spain into a leading global firm in the production and distribution of innovative surfaces for the world of architecture and design.
Over the course of the past four decades, Cosentino has managed to become an international entity with a turnover of more than 1.1 billion euros in 2019, operating in 40 countries with almost 5,000 employees worldwide.
The first milestone for the company was with the birth of Silestone® in 1990, the world’s leading quartz surface brand. In 2004, TIME magazine considered Silestone® as one of the most important innovations of the twentieth century. Thanks to Silestone, the company began its intense international growth in 1997 in Europe, with the subsidiary Cosentino Northwest Europe based in the Netherlands, and in the United States.
In the early 2000s, Cosentino Latina was born in the Brazilian city of Vitória. Becoming the first Cosentino manufacturing operation outside Spain and specializing in granite. In 2009, another great milestone came with the launch of Sensa by Cosentino®, an advanced range of natural stone with exclusive anti-stain protection.
In 2013, Cosentino scored another industry breakthrough with the development of the ultra-compact surface Dekton®, a unique product that has revolutionized the architecture and design sector.
After years of growth and international consolidation, and increased presence in Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America, Cosentino reached five continents in 2014 with its entry into South Africa. Spanning the years, Cosentino has based its development on international expansion, the constant commitment to innovation and R&D, security and integrity.
The international expansion of Cosentino continues to this day with the opening of Cosentino Centers, innovative commercial and distribution facilities, and Cosentino Cities, an advanced and technological showroom concept located in the heart of major worldwide cities.
A true testament of the company’s vision and work can be found in Cosentino employees. They form one of the fundamental pillars of the company’s trajectory: its human capital. The company is committed to attracting and training the talent of young professionals, who demonstrate their talent and know-how by leading teams in countries around the world.
Likewise, the leadership achieved by Cosentino would not have been possible without trusted relationships countless suppliers, collaborators, partners, customers and the media. One of the basic missions of the company has always been to generate value for its entire chain, for all its stakeholders, and grow an entire sector internationally.
“Together with my brothers, we wanted to create a project that was lasting, sustainable, and that would generate wealth for our nearest community and our entire sector. Those first dreams have been fulfilled. But the journey has been complicated, with very hard times. These months we’re getting to live another difficult time; an unexpected and profound global health, social and economic crisis, which will surely transform us all,” said Francisco Martínez-Cosentino Justo, President of Cosentino Group. “This year has not brought us a favourable environment to commemorate our 40 years of life, but in the hour of truth, we discover the value of honesty, empathy, agreement, solidarity, effort; the value of knowing and feeling that we will succeed.”
