Contrasting Dekton Worksurfaces and Flooring Help to Create a Dramatic Look for Open-Plan Living

A large extension on a family home near Canterbury, Kent, this kitchen needed to combine instant wow factor with practical functionality.  The client’s wish list included durable worksurfaces, a table top and beautiful flooring designed to cope with everyday wear and tear.  Created by Steve Root at Roots Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms of Faversham, the solution was to specify 20mm Dekton by Cosentino worksurfaces and circular table top in Sirius with brass inlays along with 8mm x 1420mm x 1420mm Dekton floor tiles in Danae from the Natural Collection.

The homeowners wanted the open-plan design to be a comfortable space that they could relax in after a hard day at work while also being the perfect environment for entertaining family and friends.  Additional requirements included a suitable place to work on a desktop computer, a large amount of storage for food and crockery along with a convenient place for drinks to be stored and accessed with ease.  Designed by Steve Root and fabricated by Precision Stone, the kitchen combines Black Oak cabinetry from Roots’ German furniture range with contrasting Dekton worksurfaces, table top and flooring for a monochrome design scheme that blends classic and contemporary style beautifully.  Highly resistant to UV rays, scratches, stains and thermal shock, Dekton is the perfect choice for homeowners looking for a durable, hardwearing worksurface or flooring solution whether indoors or out.  What's more,  carbon neutrality has been achieved for the entire life cycle of Dekton, so homeowners can rest assured that their surface offers a sustainable choice for eco living.

Dekton Danae was also chosen for the flooring, both inside the kitchen and outside for the patio. Creating a seamless look that blurs the boundaries between inside and out, the light floor tiles are highly resistant to stains, scratches and sunlight as well as being low maintenance and easy to clean, perfect for busy households.

Steve Root, Partner at Roots Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms explains the inspiration behind the design, “Dekton was the ideal material for this project. Firstly, as a floor material, Dekton Danae Natural was an ideal lighter colour that has the hardness and durability to work as an internal floor that carries through seamlessly to the outside patio.  In summer it feels like the room doubles in size. Dekton Sirius meanwhile was an ideal complement to the black cabinet doors.  It has a delicious matt black finish with soft undulations, like lake water on a windless summer’s day.  The island was too large for a single piece of any material, so I had brass bars fabricated to use as an inlay so any joins between slabs have become seamless and deliberate.”
