Cosentino Acts Against Climate Change

Always innovating and always striving for sustainability, Cosentino Group is consistently moving forward in its commitment to the United Nations Environment Programme and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As a global leader in the production, manufacture and distribution of innovative surfaces for the architecture and design industry, Cosentino has reached a collaboration agreement with Sustenta, a think tank created and chaired by Linares.

Helping to lead the fight against climate change, Cosentino views this strategic alliance as a way of achieving a more sustainable economic model. Cosentino will take on the role of Climate Ambassador and will contribute to the diffusion of good practices and innovations while also promoting new public-private collaborations.

Sustainability has played a huge role in the company’s business strategy and investments in recent years. This has resulted in a number of milestones such as its waste recovery rate, a reduction of emissions and increased energy efficiency. In 2020 alone, Cosentino invested around €22 million in environmental and safety assets, helping to make the company a global leader in the fight against climate change. The recognition of Dekton® as a Carbon Neutral product for its entire life cycle as one of the ‘101 business examples of Action for Climate 2020’ shows just how important this product is.

We want companies to place the planet at the centre,” says Jesús Martínez Linares. For Cosentino, its ethos is the same. “At Cosentino we fully share this vision,” explains Antonio Urdiales, Sustainability Director of Cosentino Group, “and starting from our own example, we also collaborate with the best associations, universities, companies, institutions and experts to achieve an economic and governance model that places our planet at the centre.”

With this new collaboration now in place, Cosentino has access to the inner knowledge of the Sustenta platform as well as the professional advice of Linares. A recognised international expert on climate change, Linares was also ambassador to the former Vice President of the United States and 2007 Nobel Peace Prize joint winner Al Gore (who won jointly with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change).

Linares also has a Marie Curie Fellowship position at the European Union in the prestigious Max-Planck Institute of Germany and holds an award for Global Ambassador of Climate Change as well as being distinguished with the Andalusia Regional Government Environment Awards in 2019.

It was in 2008 that Linares created the Sustenta Association with the intention of building an integrating platform that would help promote ‘planetarism’. From this vision was borne the Great Alliance for the Planet, an international civic movement to ‘refound’ the planet from sustainability. Since its creation, Sustenta has launched more than 25 environmental awareness projects on Climate Change. In 2019 Linares re-founded the association to link his work to the promotion of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The Cosentino Group is extremely proud to be working with Linares and Sustenta to move forward and tackle climate change on an ongoing daily basis.
