The aim of this report is to have full transparency regarding all activities and initiatives undertaken in CSR, thus demonstrating the clear commitment that Cosentino Group has maintained from the outset to the sustainability and improvement of our social, economic and cultural environment where it operates.
“Bringing together all the good practices carried out in one document enables us to assess and give them the importance they deserve, because at Cosentino we know that doing things well is synonymous with becoming better every day and growing within and outside the company”, states Francisco Martínez-Cosentino, Cosentino Group President.
The Cosentino Corporate Social Responsibility Report highlights its ongoing commitment by those who make it possible, through their daily work, that “Cosentino will take on the future” in the words of Francisco Martínez-Cosentino. They are the more than 2,200 employees of the company all over the world and for whom Cosentino reinvests in safety, health, equality and training. On this last point, Cosentino opened the Cosentino Corporate School in 2011 to coordinate the development of internal professionals through the transfer of knowledge and skills necessary for the successful performance of business functions and activities.
The commitment to sustainability is another key aspect in the report because in Cosentino sustainability is understood as a starting point to ensure that existing businesses have continuity in terms of employment and future profitability.
In its strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, guidelines of respect, prevention and environmental control prevail in all industrial processes in which the company participates, from material extraction to product distribution. With sustainability as one of its main challenges, Cosentino Group reinvests a significant percentage of its annual revenue in pioneering solutions. As a result of this commitment, in 2011 the company’s Environmental Department helped the company to become the first company worldwide in the quartz worktop sector to obtain the Life Cycle Analysis certification and Carbon Footprint verification.
Simultaneously and strengthening its sustainable ethics, Cosentino creates and participates in several activities aimed at contributing to and promoting sustainable awareness in all areas where it operates such as architecture, cuisine, design and fashion. An example of this was the development of the sustainable thinking conference “Shape” in 2011 and 2012 with the participation of chefs, architects, economists and other worldwide recognised figures.
Continuous improvement, innovation and development are core values within Cosentino and translate into specific actions undertaken by the company’s R&D Department. As stated in the CSR report, the relentless pursuit of improvement in our products and actions is synonymous with creating value and well-being for society. An important fact for Cosentino is the development in recent years of the exclusive bacteriostatic property for Silestone® quartz surfaces, through a cutting edge technology based on silver ions.
In this three-year period, Cosentino Group has also invested heavily in developing a new product, the ultra-compact surface Dekton® by Cosentino, will be available from spring of this year and that will revolutionise the world of architecture and construction. Actions of this kind make it possible for Cosentino to be positioned as a leader in its sector.
Corporate social responsibility regarding the local community closest to Cosentino, cooperation with institutions, foundations, universities, research and development centres, and ongoing support to culture through sponsorships and partnerships, are other aspects that Cosentino underlines in this report.
Along these lines, education and all actions that foster the spirit of leadership among young students is a commitment that is close to Cosentino’s heart and in which it invests heavily each year. As the CSR report points out, Cosentino is committed to them and their future by developing a number of initiatives such as the Eduarda Justo Foundation scholarships, through which several young students study graduate programmes in top universities like Harvard and Columbia.
Cosentino’s Corporate Social Responsibility Report is definitely a great tool to compare the evolution of the company and provides guidelines to further improve the ethical values and social and environmental actions in order to join forces and build a better world.
