April 30, 2013
Silestone®, the world leader in quartz surfaces, sponsored the “Chefs’ Choice” Award, naming the Chicago restaurant Alinea with chef Grant Achatz as the winner. This award forms part of the list “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2013” and is chosen by renowned professionals in the world of gastronomy.
Santiago Alfonso, Marketing Director at Cosentino Group, was in charge of presenting the award to Grant Achatz, during the presentation of the list of the “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2013” in the landmark Guildhall building.
The event was attended by the most important and influential chefs in the world, different professionals in the gastronomy sector and mainstream international media.
Silestone® is the official supplier of quartz worktops in “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2013”. Last night, several different worktops could be seen by the global brand in the Silestone green colour Verde Fun at the organised ceremony. Also, a series of Silestone® trays in different colours were used by the organisers to serve the cocktail to the guests, who were presented with an elegant set of coasters also made by the world leader in quartz surfaces.
The Silestone Institute, an international platform dedicated to the study and dissemination of knowledge on the kitchen as a social and work space, gave guests a copy of its recent publication “90 cm above the ground”. This book defines the concepts and standards of the installations of the current professional kitchen and researches haute cuisine requirements. Leading chefs such as Andoni Luis Aduriz, Jose Andrés, Dan Barber, Carles Abellán and Joan Roca, among others, have contributed to the book.
This is the third time that the global company has sponsored “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2013”. In 2012, Silestone® sponsored the the same award as this year, which went to the Spanish restaurant Mugaritz run by Andoni Luis Aduriz. In 2011, Silestone® was the sponsor of the “Highest New Entry Award”, which went to the London restaurant The Ledbury run by Brett Graham.
The list is created from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry. The Academy comprises 26 separate regions around the world. Each region has its own panel of 36 members including a chairperson to head it up. The panel is made up of food critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded ‘foodies’ each of whom has seven votes. Of the seven votes, at least three of which must be used to recognise restaurants outside of their region. Voters must have eaten in the restaurants they nominate in the last 18 months. Voters are not permitted to vote for restaurants they own or have an interest in.
