Cosentino Belfast gets involved in DIY SOS with beautiful results for Northern Irish Family in Bangor.

data-lazy-srcset= Thousands of people tuned in last Monday to BBC One to watch the award winning renovation show – DIY SOS: The Big build complete another life-changing home transformation!

Hosted by Nick Knowles, the inspirational and emotional TV show saw local volunteers from the building and interior design world come together to help out deserving families in need of help finishing their dream homes.

Cosentino Ireland was, once again, honoured to be part of this compassionate and noble television series and worked with designers on the most recent project featured on the show supplying the materials free of charge.

In last Monday’s episode, the public were introduced to the engaging and inspiring McCreight family in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Mum, Mandy and the two kids, Ben and Kara have complex health needs attended to by their main carer, dad, Davey in a house that is totally unfit for the families many medical needs. The entire family were under real stress and the house was making the situation unbearable. The big problem was that their home was not wheelchair adapted and needed to be to future proofed for the entire family before they reach breaking point.

That’s where the kind DIY SOS volunteers step in… to help a deserving family in need!

width=The build reconfigured the entire house, to include disabled friendly bedrooms, a wet-room with direct access for carers, widened doors throughout and a new lift to access the first floor by wheelchair. The kitchen was completely redesigned to make it wheelchair friendly too.

Cosentino Belfast donated the stunning white and grey veined stone in the kitchen area. Cosentino’s product, Silestone Lagoon Suede, was used for the countertops and island to create this striking space. The bright, colourful and modern kitchen, which was designed with the busy family in mind, is beautifully finished while staying functional, practical and easy to keep clean.

Working on the exciting project were Mid Ulster Granite, Cosentino’s Platinum Fabricators in Ireland, and Abbey Kitchens & Bathrooms, Cosentino’s Premium Kitchen Studio.

Lisa McClure, Director of Mid Ulster Granite, said, “DIY SOS is one of my favourite TV shows. We felt very privileged that we could be a part of helping Davy, Mandy, Ben and Kara achieve their dream home allowing them to have the normal family time together they craved. It was great working alongside Abbey Kitchens and Bathrooms who supplied all the kitchen units and our main quartz supplier Cosentino – who supplied the Lagoon suede quartz worktop. Quartz is a non-porous, hard wearing, low maintenance countertop, perfect for the McCreight family home to enjoy. We wish the family all the best in their newly renovated home.”

Stuart Barnett, Managing Director of Abbey Kitchens & Bathrooms, said “We were delighted to be able to play our part in the very first time the DIY SOS-The Big Build has taken place in Northern Ireland. The kitchen had to be adapted to become inclusive for the entire family to create a functional modern space that they could all spend time together in. The worktops are always in integral part of a kitchen and we are delighted to count on Mid-Ulster Granite and stone and ultimately Cosentino as our main supplying partners.

The Lagoon Silestone quartz worktops finished in a suede texture offered both a practical yet stylish solution to the family’s needs. The under mounted sink maximised worktop space and the lowered working area offered a functional area for Mandy to enjoy spending time with the family in the kitchen again. We are really proud of the kitchen and are thrilled that the family are so pleased with the end result. To know it has truly made a difference to them is a fantastic accomplishment.”
