Leading Irish TV architect, Dermot Bannon has selected Silestone® by Cosentino for his kitchen worktops as part of a recent kitchen renovation at his home in Drumcondra, Dublin.  Bannon presents the popular Irish TV program, “Room to Improve”, which is currently in its tenth season, alongside running his own architect practice, Dermot Bannon Architects.

The architect’s house in Drumcondra, a suburb on the outskirts of Dublin, where he lives with his wife and three children is a compact city home by his own admission.  This aptly reflects Bannon’s ideal that architecture is not about the size but the quality of the space and  should be accessible for everyone, and how good design can change for the better how we live. His life at home has always been a key factor in informing the way he designs for his clients, considering the every day challenges of family life.

Through his architecture practice, Bannon has recommended Silestone® to his clients for many years, in particular Lagoon due to its clean, light reflecting properties; light being a corner stone of many of his designs.  For his own kitchen, the architect has selected Silestone® in Cemento Spa with Suede finish in 30mm thickness, used on the kitchen worktops and also as the surface for a convenient central island.  The soft grey ties together the dark teak of the joinery and floors with the birch plywood of the cupboards, stainless steel appliances and simple white tiles finish a simple and clean look.

The various properties of Silestone® by Cosentino lend themselves well to the often busy nature of family life, as its high resistance to scratches, stains and impact means that even the most well used of family kitchens will benefit from a long lasting, easy to maintain surface.

With a 25 year warranty, Silestone® also benefits from a colour consistency that is not found in natural stone and is the ideal surface for use in a wide variety of non-commercial and commercial applications, including kitchen worktops, sinks, bar/reception tops, flooring, splashbacks and wall cladding.

Silestone® is available in three thicknesses; 1.2cm, 2cm and 3cm and two slab formats; standard 304x138cm and jumbo 325x159cm for larger size projects offering fewer joins. There is a choice of over 60 distinctive through-body colours and three finishes; polished, volcano and suede.
