Design company and online ideas hub, Coco + Kelley has partnered with the world leader in quartz surfaces, Silestone® by Cosentino for its latest design project based on the West Coast of America. Established in 2007 by founder and creative director, Cassandra LaValle, Coco + Kelley guides clients into discovering their personal tastes, curating fresh ideas for a range of interior projects.

The goal of the kitchen renovation project was to open up the space, adding an influx of natural light via an aptly named ‘Sun Room’ extension.  It was important that the home stepped away from its tired seventies interior and returned to its 19th century roots, creating a practical space for cooking, entertaining and storage.

To ensure the kitchen had a bright, modern and consistent look, Cassandra used Silestone® Lagoon for the surfacing and white paint from Benjamin Moore for the woodwork.  The aim was to create a Modern Farmhouse style kitchen that would serve as both a family room and a space for entertaining.  Flourishes of the homeowner’s personality are featured delicately throughout the finishing touches, such as the beautifully tiled splashback.

How would you describe your interior style?

I’m really into classic, West Coast features like warm oak, natural linen and woven textures.

What did you want to achieve with the redesign?

I wanted to bring character back into this kitchen and open up the space to allow for more natural light.  From a style perspective it was important that the history of the house remained.  Typically, I like the look of marble but I love the practicality and beauty of quartz, so for the worktops, Silestone® was an easy choice.  It’s a really hard-wearing and practical product that’s just ideal for kitchens.  We chose the colour Lagoon as it works brilliantly with the White Dove paint from Benjamin Moore that covers the cabinets.

How did you decide on the colour scheme?

I always knew I wanted a light interior, so there isn’t an ounce of black in this space.   As far as features go I wanted the island to stand out, so I liked the idea painting it with a mid-tone grey, which really enhances the colour of the countertops.

What’s your favourite thing about the space?

Being able to tailor everything to our specific needs was fantastic, and I just love how functional the end result is!
